Not sure where to post this, so this’ll have to do.

Highlight is mine, as is my first thought: “RIIIIIGHT-rightrightrightright….” 😁

I'm so conflicted right now...

On the one hand, no regret using YouTube to help arrive at a decision -- recently, to pick up a pair of Red Wing boots (Iron Rangers, FWIW... still breaking them in around the house... just add autumn, and I'm set.)

But on the other hand... damn... there are so many really good boot review channels, which leads down the leather shoe/boot care videos, and so on. I'm so not that guy... but, turns out... I'm that guy!

Any rabbit holes you never imagined you'd be down?
My dad recently checked out a nicks boots review. They look promising and incredibly well made.

I like science channels generally, and recently found this one. This botanist adds some spice to your learning (in other words, language!)...

What a great thread. I have so many YT rabbit holes I can't start to itemise them. But since we started with boots, then it's Cheaney Pennines or Doc Martens for me

I have to revive this with drain addict, I’m about 100 videos into watching a bloke with a water jetter unclog blocked toilets while talking to a rubber rat and loving every bit of it.

This is an Aussie bloke that runs an extremely highly regarded engineering shop not far from @Trev on the Gold Coast. He repairs and remanufactures parts for some of the biggest pieces of mining equipment on earth like Cat D11 dozers and mining trucks.

The deadpan delivery as he’s explaining the failures like “This is a $25,000 hydraulic cylinder which failed because the operator apparently doesn’t believe grease is necessary for long term operation” and “This $15,000 ripper snapped because the driver got it caught on something tough to rip and tried backing up and ramming it until he took a million dollar machine out of action” kind or reminds me of @Archer here at times.

Also his analysis of updates parts designs from brands like Caterpillar and Hitachi “so the old part failed frequently due to lack of lubrication which causes the eye bearing to fail, so they drilled two additional grease ports into the eye, adding additional weak points to the highest stress part of it to ensure it fails mechanically before the bearing goes on the new version. Nice work Cat.”

Snark aside, his replacements are known to greatly outlast OEM in most applications and at a much lower price and with a faster turnaround time so he’s doing well.

I have so many but here are just a few. YouTube Premium has been so, so worth it to get rid of the ads.

Technology Connections - everyday items explained. My favorite is the one about brown.
PastaGrammar - An American man marries an Italian woman and learns about food
The Second Empire Strikes Back - a couple in St. Louis rehab an abandoned house built in 1886 or so
Modustrial Maker - Guy buys an abandoned building in Chicago and rehabs it, plus makes all kinds of nifty furniture and lights
Rare Car Classics - a man's mid-60s to mid-70s land yacht collection. I want all his cars.
The Try Channel - young Irish comedians try various food and drinks from around the world
Periscope Film - all kinds of old educational/instructional movies

A little late here, but Periscope is great. British Pathe is not bad either.

I love these videos that break down songs...here we have a huge hit (at least in Canada) that was a simple sounding song that was anything but, as the presenter explains in detail...

As a motorcycle and motorsport fan I know about Guy Martin from his success at the Isle of Man TT. I just discovered he has a show doing all kinds of awesome stuff and he is just such a cool humble guy (no pun intended). A couple I've watched so far...

Building a Spitfire:

Building and driving a vintage F1 car. There is even a watch tie in on this one. They give Guy a Casio calculator watch just like Senna was wearing back in the day and Guy actually uses the calculator lol (around 57 minutes in). Looks like our boy Jenson is wearing a Daytona.

Do you watch FortNine? The kid is hilarious and a great motorcycle wizard.

Edit: his video production is really high level

Yes, I’ve watched a decent amount of Fortnine. I’m also a fan of what Ari and Zack are doing at Revzilla Common Tread.
