I mean, to be fair, you've got a couple of serious keepers that I've seen and the one you added recently (if I'm remembering correctly) was a foregone purchase.
Yes, that’s part of the “problem.” There are some that I simply couldn’t replace easily - 1958 Ranchero, 1969 Speedmaster Straight Writing, 1959 Geneve, 1950 Seamaster 2576, among others. I only have three modern watches in the collection, two Seamasters and a JLC, but I love those too! Even the stuff that I have sold was hard to let go of, but I’m grateful that it has gone to great OF members like Tubber, Mad Dog and RevZMan who all appreciate it and wear it with pride. 😀

I knew you were a Seamaster guy based upon our interactions in a few threads, but that might be the most beautiful "trilogy" I've ever seen.

Fantastic.

Never say never!

But the top contenders are:

Your '58 Ranchero is one of the coolest watches I've ever seen. I wouldn't be able to part with it if I had one.

I’m a new guy to this and have made stupid ass purchases. They’re gone, some through this site . I’m down to a Moon Watch and an IWS Portofino, a chronograph gift from my wife that I’ll never let go.
Cheers!

Much appreciated.

A "Seamaster's Only" collection is a long-term goal I've been considering.

But waiting on the book to publish for further inspiration.

ever look at them and say, "What the fυck was I thinking?"

Currently there today.

I was doing 'spreadsheet day' last month and saw that my watch collection value is now like ~7% of my net worth. My first thought was definitely 'what the fυck am I doing with all this jewelry, 1/2 of which I don't wear but once or twice a year.'

I pulled a few watches out with intent to sell them, but they've just been sitting on top of my dresser ever since. The 'WTF am I thinking' moment of clarity has stalled with the realization that I'll have to exert effort to sell stuff.

I can attest: it looks even better in person.

And therein lies the rub.
Same here: the effort of choosing what to sell and the actuality of selling it are my two main issues... just easier to keep buying and let my kid and wife deal with all the mess & bullshit after I get hit and killed by a car while out on a bike ride -- or some disease decides it's me it wants.

I’m sure most of you know this: Chrono24 app lets you input all of your watches and gives you a rough estimate of how much they are worth…I won’t derail the thread into “investment” yap but, it’s a useful tool for those with double digits wrist-blings.

Keep in mind, their prices are roughly 20% inflated. Still, a useful/fun tool to keep track of your girly man blings.

Speedy Trilogy is going places.

Sorting it out in probate is always an option!

The impulse to ignore it and just keep buying is tough to resist. I literally thought to myself "well, it's hard to pick because there's only 30-40 watches here and I still like a lot of them too much. Maybe when the collection is 100+ it'll be easier to sell some?" But, then I realized I am becoming a deranged person.

I use their tool as well... when I crested 60k I stopped looking out of sheer embarrassment at my stupidity.

I know, I know, 60k is jackshit compared to most and many but when I saw that number, based on my life and what I feel is a lot of coin, I was mortified.

Haha, chrono24 is precisely what triggered my moment of clarity as well.

$60 grands on wrist trinkets, tsk, tsk, tsk… You wife will kill you before that car hits you. I’ll take that Explorer for $3000, right now. Cash! Hurry, she’s coming. Send me the box later.

I have been giving a lot of thought to the potential of paring down the collection lately. I am not taking the piss here and think that if I got totally ruthless I could get down to this..

You know that any attempt to reduce the collection will only create a vacuum that will suck other watches back in……. Actually you’ll probably end up with even more watches as once the start getting drawn into the vacuum there will be some momentum achieved and even when the vacuum had been filled watches will still be moving into you collection with the momentum!
