Back during my "collect things!" phase I was into collecting bourbon, especially dusties (old, out of production bottlings). I've never had this reaction with watches but there was definitely a time I looked over the bourbon bottles I had accumulated and never intended to drink and I went "what the fυck was I thinking?"

At that point I started selling them and pared down to only what I wanted to keep.

Once you get to three "dream watches" or more -- trust me, you'll want your bourbon back.

😁🍿 Could be. I'd like to think it taught me a lesson, but some days I'm not so sure of that. I definitely have eyes for a few more Omegas. Just don't tell my wife!

I sold most of my watches and now have only a handful that I wear regularly.

My thinking was more along the lines of: Why wear all of these other watches when I have these three?

So I sold Bulovas, Tudors, Rolex, Seikos, Universals, Vulcains, a LePhare Triple Date Moonphase, Timex, Walthams, Hamiltons, etc…

I am not even looking for anything else…I still have a few that are not being used. They may go at a local auction. Nothing precious.

Your Watches And You.
Hi, I'm Troy McClure. You might remember me from such threads as "Is this $50 Ed White a fake?" and "MadDog: Hooters Fan or Hooligan?"

Yep. Every time I visit the SDB. When I was working, It was fun to decide what to wear to the office or what to take on a business trip. Now its WTF? The withering look that I get from Mrs. S. when watches come up in conversation is also a constant reminder. I’ve decided that every penny of the cash generated by sales is going back to work into the portfolio. For some reason, its making me feel better about selling my hard won baubles.

Let’s see them

A group photo of them together would only serve to further fυck me off.
I think they're all on here in one form or another under my username.

I feel like if I tossed them all into a microwave and set it on high, metaphorically that is, 10 minutes later I'd have the perfect single watch (instead of 12 "almost perfect but..." watches).

I’ve had advise as follows, “make a discard list and be ruthless about it.” Then see where you are. I don’t imagine I’ll get to where @Duracuir1 is however. I’ve managed to sell two so far. It’s work but its getting easier.

That's the thing though... I love them all like stepchildren ~ forced into loving through marriage to an imaginary hot chick.

I sold two watches in 2022. With 148 more to go, at two watches per year, it should take me until 2097 to divest of my last two.😁 No! Wait! I have acquired one more watch since then. I give up!

14 is overwhelming - I cannot imagine adding an 8 to that number.
My hat is off good sir.

All too often.

It's not that I want to keep them, more that the thought of the hassle of selling them -- all the tyre-kicker nimrods with their "Would you accept $813 for your Ed White?" -- exhausts me before I even get round to taking the photos

I sold one and traded another last year and have sold two this year. Unfortunately, I bought many more than that last year and have purchased one this year with another two planned. I'm pretty happy with my efforts and would like to get rid of a few more. I'd guess the number is over 30 but I'd like to get down to a "handful" like @Duracuir1 has apparently.

I'm currently going for 31, almost there. I don't ever want to reach 31. I don't buy watches on impulse. I allow myself one a year. So If I don't obsess about a piece for a whole 365 days, no go.

Every time I'm thinking about letting one go...they started singing. I haven't strapped on my Sedna Seamaster for years, and god damn, no regret.

One of yours is worth more than my « handful ». You have amazing watches.
