Yes or No? Sell PO for new 300m?

Agree to disagree then. I remember reading the 8900 is essentially the same as the 8500 apart from cosmetic differences to really emphasize METAS. And I’d take the 8900/8500 over the 8800 personally.

Fair, but I think all of the planet oceans have at least the 8500b movements

I agree with you but still if i had the option i would choose the 89xx over the 85xx. But that's just me. I think the OP was asking for our individual opinions.

You are forgetting that there are alot of versions ofthe 8500 movement. Not all are the same. Improvemnts have been made you cant compare an early 8500 to an 8900.



Hey I’m happy with a top 2824-2 at the best of times. ( and a COSC 2824-2 would be just as good as any Omega movement in my book )

So the movement has no bearing for me. PO all day long.

I am ready for change but could do with a little persuasion.
I love having a nice watch but am definitely not a collector, more of a wearer.
Whatever I have is worn daily for work, play and social.
I have personally never seen the point of having money sat there doing nothing (several watches in a display case). I have other uses for that cash.
Anyway, back to the question for open debate and opinions.
Should I sell my PO and replace with what I think is an almost perfect watch, the diver 300m in black?
Looking forward to many yes responses to push me forward!

No, you are not alone. I'm not a big fan either. The video comparison is good, and reinforces my thoughts that the PO without the waves is a more attractive watch.

Hell, I’ll take a 2500 over both the 8500 and the 8900

in fact if you offer me a 8500 AND an 8900 OR a 2500 I’d still go for the 2500

I'm a big fan of the planet ocean. I'm not sure about the very prominent waves on the new smp's. Also, I like the date function.

On the other hand, I really like the look of the black ceramic case especially with the rubber strap, but just realize you'll never be able to wear it on a bracelet.

That planet ocean is gorgeous

Now that I'm done babbling on about movements (sorry about that btw), here's what I've been through in the past 3 years.

I started with this.

Then swapped it for this:

But ended up deciding to go for this:

One year later, I'm still happy with it, but I would like to get an 8500 again at some point. I think its safe to say I have a thing for planet oceans.

No, you’re not the only one. I own the pre-2018 version of the SMPc (black dial without waves) and I prefer it to the new model with the wave dial and the Reese’s peanut butter cup helium escape valve. The 2500D movement in the older version is no slouch - mine is accurate to within a few seconds per month. As to the OP’s question, I prefer the SMPc to the PO because the former is more of an all rounder that you can wear in just about any setting. If I wanted a classic diver, though, I’d go with the PO.

The ceramic no date Seamaster is a thing of beauty!
Seamaster for me, all day.

As much as I admire the PO from afar, I couldn’t own one due to the busy hands, the arrow hour hand is fine, but it’s just OTT with the arrow minute hand too..

How come?
Well, for one thing, the 2500 has a slimmer profile than the 8500 and the 8900 - makes for a less bulky watch on the wrist.
