I had the original (Bond)b wave dial and sold it with great regret.

I have had 8500 PO and had 8800 300M which you are debating..
Both are sold now. I turned to 2500 PO's and 300M's... and for the future I am targeting 1120 watches..

Hell, I’ll take a 2500 over both the 8500 and the 8900

in fact if you offer me a 8500 AND an 8900 OR a 2500 I’d still go for the 2500

+1
2500 watches are much more wearable and date setting is a winner.

Here’s perfection...

I also have the Planet Ocean the OP posted, but it sadly doesn’t get much wear lately.

No, here’s.....

I think it is rather difficult for us to give you a good advice without better knowledge of your motivation. Are you somehow tired of your present PO and you look for a cool subsitute? Or are you so drawn to the SM300 that, no matter what you have, it MUST be the SM300?
We could offer you an endless exchange of diverse opinions, but they are all personal. The more superficial the reason for our decisions, the shorter the satisfaction that we can expect from them. We can help you take a long time satisfying decision, by digging deep for the real reason for your lust for a change.

So, why exactly do you want to change?

A question for you. Do you wear your watch at night? One of my favourite features of the PO is the lume. I’ve always felt the PO would be better than the Diver as it has the 2 thin lines because of the skeleton hands. If you have older eyes like I do, I think you’ll be better off the PO. I tried on the white dialed Diver and it’s a nice watch but I’d rather have my PO. That’s just my opinion and yours is the one that counts. Good luck with your decision. 👍

I have that same PO for about 4 years, wouldn't trade it for the diver myself. Both are nice though, not an objectively right or wrong answer.

Wow. How can anyone make a decision with such a varied number of excellent responses?

I've got the SM300 in blue, beautiful watch. I often complain that it's too heavy, too big and marginally uncomfortable, but it's just so darn pretty and I just love looking at it. I must have eyes of love, because I don't see that hideous helium valve at all.

Then I put on the Speedmaster and think "oh this is so much better" and then after a week or two I miss the blue, and back on goes the Seamaster.

So, buy it, but keep the PO. If you decide that you only need one, then sell it. You may decide that for the paltry amount of money that you'll get for it, you might as well keep it and have two to enjoy. Besides, you know, down the road your watch will need a service, and you'll need a backup while it's gone.

Er I may or may not have been guilty of using the old ‘watch away for service so I’ll need to buy another excuse myself”. Maybe even as recently as last December!

OP, I can’t really help much with your decision as I’ve had both the latest PO and latest SMP. And after months of ownership I still couldn’t tell you which one was a winner. Only time I was really happy was when I briefly owned both at the same time - when I’ve owned just one of the pair, I’ve always been hankering after owning the other. Currently have just the SMP and it’s killing me.

Go big and get both!

If more support is needed to push you along, and you're only buying one (not keeping the PO and adding), then yes - the new SMP 300m is the one and only Omega I would own IMO - if that we're the situation.

I'm in the camp that says keep the PO and add the 300m when you get the chance

Agree. Both excellent watches, but quite different, with the SMP as the dressy diver option. I no longer own a PO since I picked up my Doxa, but the SMP is my most worn watch these days on its rubber strap. Accurate to a few seconds per week, legible in nearly any lighting condition and a beautifully detailed case for the price point. For all that it offers it manages to be an underrated piece in some quarters. Don't get it but glad I own it.

How much of this is the human being hardwired to like new things? Will you feel the same about the SM300 after a year that you currently feel about the PO?

So I think I've solved my dilemma?
As much as I loved the original strap with orange stitching, it just felt a little too 'wimpy' for the watch (16mm buckle).
Have been experimenting with some after market straps and this is perfect!
I said to myself that I would splash out and get a genuine but this is sooooo comfortable, I don't know if I could justify the genuine article.
Anyway, keeping the PO now it's the watch I personally think it should be and looking at the SMP on SS bracelet as a dress watch.
Aahhhhh!

Good decision, the PO for me is one of the best looking watches around especially with those orange numerals which really set the watch off.

Nice. Which strap is this? You say it’s not genuine? I’m thinking of getting a PO 2500 to complement my Speedy

I had the 45mm PO 2500. I loved the look, but just a bit too big. I then saw the newer version of the titanium blue dial PO. Bought that as that is the best dial I have ever seen on any watch. But damn thing was too thick. So I sold it. I then recently bought the latest blue dial PO, 43.5mm. love the size, buts it's to damn thick. I plan to sell it. I bought the SMP, I love it.

I think all would have been different had I bought the 42mm PO 2500, but that's just how it goes.

Your PO is a classic, I'd keep it and I'm happy you found a solution for your delima with a new strap.
