not a huge deal, but one of the screws that secure the case back fell off and needs to be replaced. Its not quite time for battery replacement yet. So I suppose Omega Boutique would be my source for a new replacement screw?

BTW, Omega service center was the last guy that opened up the case back in 2015

A call to the OB that you dropped it off with may result in them getting one in for you pretty fast, at no charge. Either way, you need a replacement and that is the place to start.

You also may want to get a tiny flat head screw driver and make sure the others are not loose.

edit: changed Philips head to flat head

If the battery change was under two years ago, it should still be under warranty... might be worth checking that first, as I believe they're meant to replace the screws with new ones each time. 👍

You could also go to a local watch repair and get a substitute screw to prevent water intrusion. I had the same thing happen and they were able to find one that worked until I could get an OEM replacement - which I picked up from Ofrei (no idea if they've any more at this point).

Not the best advice as a substitute screw may cross thread the thread.

As @tyrantlizardrex said take it to omega and get it fixed and a battery changed whilst your at it as its just about due.

Naturally you'll want to utilize caution before jamming any random screw in there! I'd hoped that would be implicit in my post. If not, then Yes, it would be a bad idea to jam any random screw in there. Especially one that might strip the threads.

As long as you find the right screw, it should be fine...

All good,
I always try to put the information about the right screw and a decent watchmaker that can get one. As to some the mall guy is the local watch repairer. 😉

Update:

I took the watch to my local Boutique and they can't simply order the screw for me, they had to send the watch in to "make sure the screw works".

Anyway, they have my watch now. I also put in order for a few more screws so I have spare.

Good call.

I'd read that as "make sure the thread hasn't been stripped out of the case".

Was it still under warranty from the last battery change?

That's ridiculous.

A $10 part is going to lead to a $300+ bill? I hope that was the exception and not the rule.

A battery change and new screws/seal isn't $300.

They're going to have insisted on sending it off because they don't know why the screw fell out, and will not want to accept liability for just replacing the screw and not investigating cause.

Chill your boots, let's see what they say once the watch has been inspected. 😉

I appreciate your adorable naiveté.

OP - be prepared to drop a couple of c-notes at minimum.

I've owned two of these, paid for a battery change (£75 including screws and seal), and a full service (£375 for everything...).

Maybe go easy on the condescension.

No need to beat a dead horse. I was being cheeky with you, I apologize if you took it the wrong way.

As far as the OP goes, my estimate was in US dollars. And, I too have owned too many of these and had many serviced at Omega.

Just getting a foot in the door is going to cost you. I have never sent an X-33 in for any reason - regardless of how minimal the operation - and spent less than $300 (US).

When Omega gets the watch, they will thoroughly strip it and analyze it. Anything that's suspect gets replaced. I think downplaying the very real possibility that this thread's originator is going to walk away spending less than a couple hundred (US) is odd.

That stated, it's a great a watch! I've always come back to it.

Have a good weekend!

Whatever buddy. As I've stated, have a good weekend and if you find some sunshine, try and step in it.

I'm really not sure what your problem is... but you are aware that you're acting like a dick right?
