I frequently see Timex watches showing up in the forum. I probably have a dozen or so Timexes in my stash that don’t run. Why not dig up a presentable one and fix it, thought I. Rummaging around in my stash, I found this one before I uncovered a Timex. It is a 1970 Caravelle transistorized electronic version. Much like a mechanical watch, it has a balance wheel, train wheels, jewelled lever escapement, and a transistorized circuit. And of course, a cell. Why not show this one rather than a Timex, I thought. So I stripped it, conditioned it, fitted a cell and a period correct “scissors” expansion bracelet, and here it is. I was astonished at how well this watch showed on my timing machine. So let’s wear it, and see if it is as good as it looks. It had never in its 52 year existence, been serviced, until today. And has had relatively little wear. The movement is Japanese, and is fitted with 12 jewels.
