    Seiko go (5),
    automatic 3-hander, day-date
    Blue dial, white-blue inner bezel,
    Ref. #6119-6040
    japanese home market model
    Build: July 1968

Having a 6119 movement, constructed in the 1960s for realiabilty and durability.
Introduced in 1967, it runs very well, like you expect from an old Seiko.

They were new and are still today pretty cheap watches, but how often you see one ....?!

[...came upon this fellow yesterday on the same track, a juvenile Western Diamondback about 20cm (8in.) in length. Not a great photo as it was hurrying to get away. This is my first rattler spotting of 2021 and will certainly not be the last.

Great photo - but I’d have thought it would be you ‘hurrying to get away' rather than the snake - I certainly would have :)

With all the hiking I’ve done in the local mountains, and coastal preserves I’ve never seen a rattlesnake. Heck I even IDed and collected a snake that ended up expanding it’s recognized distribution. Kings, gophers, 4 types of lizards... not a single rattler of any flavor!

im also the only person to dive extensively in the Bahamas and never see a nurse shark...

This is stunning. still one of the best vintage watches from Omega. Love that black dial with that patina...

Yes, understood. It's just that I've had a fascination with reptiles since my earliest memory, and have encountered so many rattlesnakes that I have a pretty good idea of how they'll behave in a particular situation. I gave the one in the photo quite a wide berth (the shot was taken with the 2x lens on my phone) because it was a juvenile, which are known to inject a very large venom dose compared to adult rattlers.

Yes, the hills near our home (the Santa Monica Mts.) are unusually snake-y in my opinion. When I encountered that snake the other day I was on high rattler alert because of the weather condition that day: it had been very cold overnight, and when I was hiking it was warm, with the Sun shining from high in the sky -- perfect for illuminating a narrow trail surrounded by thick brush. Rattlesnakes, being cold-blooded, need to be warmed up to pursue prey, and to flee from predators. Lying in the shade on a cold morning just won't cut it for a warm-up, so they head for the first open spot they can find in order to sunbathe -- in this case, the trail. When I first saw this snake, it was stretched out full length on the trail, completely motionless as it soaked up the Sun.
