The Rolex releases proved again that it is Tudor that gives us what we want.

So, some of you saw another post on wruw with my IWC Portofino. I said it was going to be my wedding watch, which happens a week from today. However, Murphy's Law states that anything that can go wrong, will, meant that it needed a service, badly. The watch was stuck between day and date. She's in for service and highly unlikely to be ready in a week. So, my fall back watch is:

Excuse the bad photo, I guess I have the cold feet jitters. NOT! I'm just lousy with a smart phone camera. 🥰

The watch belonged to my father, he died last year and the book is because I really like to read and this was the first one I read with him back in the 80's

Thanks for sharing! So many of us have deeply personal stories with our watches, often connecting with our fathers. I always like hearing stories behind the pictures.

I thought this was maybe related to the IWC Little Prince collection

Switched over to this guy. A gift from my dad 17 years ago. My first serious watch.

I thought at the time when I first saw this Gruen movement, that it looked suspiciously like a movement made by Durowe, a German maker associated with Laco. Ranfft didn’t show this movement by the Gruen calibre number 629ss. This morning, I went to the Ranfft images and checked out Durowe, to find the movement in this Gruen is actually a Durowe calibre 570! Durowe later became absorbed by Timex who wanted the Durowe battery powered movement for early Timex Electrics. This was in the early 1960s. So I suspect this Gruen is likely from the mid 1950s.

Nice detective work.
Just another aspect of the hobby to satisfy the obsessive compulsive itch !
