I thought at the time when I first saw this Gruen movement, that it looked suspiciously like a movement made by Durowe, a German maker associated with Laco. Ranfft didn’t show this movement by the Gruen calibre number 629ss. This morning, I went to the Ranfft images and checked out Durowe, to find the movement in this Gruen is actually a Durowe calibre 570! Durowe later became absorbed by Timex who wanted the Durowe battery powered movement for early Timex Electrics. This was in the early 1960s. So I suspect this Gruen is likely from the mid 1950s.

This Montrose "Aquamatic" was a bonus/freebie watch included in an auction lot I purchased for one particular watch. From what little I have been able to learn about Montrose, it appears to have been an in-house brand sold into the Canadian market. Surprising Montrose used the "Aquamatic" model name given its longtime use by Nivada/Croton. It's a well made and handsome piece, IMHO.....recessed crown, funky dial font, powered by a Felsa 1560 movement....keeps good time. The bracelet is just a bit snug for me....I'll pass it along to one of my sons after wearing it a bit.

Props to Swatch Group. My Hamilton Murph winding mechanism wasn’t working properly, the rotor would spin when you manually wound it. With a copy of the warranty card they took it in, repaired it, sent it back in a few weeks. They paid for shipping both ways, and a service case to boot. 7FEB1DA9-840F-449E-BF38-E5FDF6D18AB2.jpeg 6F43A003-0587-4234-9B0F-2677C15A9264.jpeg
