Reporting for Phlieger Phriday with my generic ETA 6497 built at AWCI Build a Watch 2.0 earlier this month in Portland, OR. It was a birthday gift from Mrs.1128 to yours truly, and my last activity away from the house before hunkering down for the duration of COVID-19. It was a great all around experience and provided a new level of appreciation for the art and our hobby - with the added bonus that my watchmaker was one of the instructors for the class! Pretty happy with the outcome too: bead-blasted SS case, box sapphire crystal, matte blue dial, brushed SS hands, a sapphire case back and blued screws for the movement. And despite me assembling and lubricating the parts, it keeps great time at +1 sec / day. I was inspired when @Mad Dog did this class a year or so ago, and when I heard from my watchmaker that he'd be instructing, my attendance was a no brainer. It is a challenging course to be sure, but highly recommended .
II I lI l love this watch. 1960s Benrus. Inexpensive and in my opinion beautiful. I like the odd numbers being left out, the red seconds hand, light “gold” hands and hour markers and stainless case. Alligator band helps, too.
I decided I needed some change in my life so I wandered down to my safe and grabbed old faithful. This was a gift from my parents when I graduated from university 32 years ago. I had it serviced and a new bracelet put on it a couple of years ago.
This evenings choice , which by some coincidence happens to be the same watch I’ve been wearing all day .
