·Do I detect rusted hands? Possibility the the yellowed crystal could be the cause, and perhaps should be replaced, and the hands cleaned up.
Correct on both counts....hands were originally furnace blue, but now about 50% light rust....will replace crystal and refinish/replace hands, and see what can be done to clean face a bit.
