This Baume et Mercier my father just gave to me...he had promised it to me some years ago. 14K with opal dial, from the early '70s.

It's not terribly small, about the same size as this:

Well this 'C' cal is 4 years out, and out of warranty, so if it stops it deserves a rest. 👍

Giving this one some wrist time today. Need to keep it in trim until the regatta season kicks in again! 😉
Elvström Lemania cal 1345.

The special bezel with the compass markers, together with the "First Mark" and "Reach" indicators are used to calculate tack angles for an international/Olympic regatta racetrack (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic_triangle).
The "Elvström" name comes from the man who invented this function in a watch, he is also a famous yacht designer and four times Olympic and eleven (11!) times World Champion. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Elvstrom).

What an interesting watch!

I can make out 5 circles in the dial sweeping between 10 and 2. What do they reveal?

Hi!

The 5 circles is showing the regatta countdown timer. Basically the 1345 has a second hand that is always sweeping.
When the single "chronograph" pusher is pressed, the second hand will go to 12'o clock in Flyback style.
The countdown will go into a 2x5 minute mode. At first the 5 circles will be light blue, and gradually be replaced by red.
When all 5 are red, the dial background color will start to fill the first field and so on, until the last circle is red (then you will have 1 minute before start). When all indicators are back to the color as shown in my initial photo, and the second hand reaches the top, it is race time!
The flyback reset function is very handy as a start may be postponed, and then restarted. It only requires one push on the chrono button to reinitialize a new countdown process.

Since the International Sailing Federation changed the starting procedure it is not fully compliant any longer, however it still works since the last section of the start procedure is signaled (horn) when 5 minutes remains.

Happy Thanksgiving all!
Today I am thankful for this newly arrived faux-brick stretch-link Zenith S.58 bracelet from 4th quarter 1959. 😀
