My husband has a special love for WWII watches, especially the Elgin and Hamilton canteens. I think he has 7 Elgins and 3 Hamiltons. Great pieces of history. I like them also because they are small.
I'm envious of your husband regarding his WWII watches. I don't have any mil watches...and the fact that during the mid 1980s when I entered military service (USN), we weren't issued a watch (see pic below)...so I have mil watch envy.

I haven't seen a canteen in the metal yet...it's interesting that you state that they're small...so I'm really looking forward to seeing a canteen in the metal at some point in the future. 馃憤

EDIT ADDITION: If @corn18 chimes in that he was issued a watch...I'll flip out. I was year group '87 and he was year group '88...so I'm guessing he wasn't issued a watch either...but then again I was AOCS and he was USNA...so who knows. 馃槈 I know @ChuckMK23 wasn't issued a watch and he was year group '86 (NROTC)...and we have cried in our Dunkin' coffee cups regarding the fact that we weren't issued watches. 馃檨 Now...If I were a betting man, I'd bet @JFingers was issued a flipping Rolex...because he is USAF...and everybody knows those USAF dudes/dudettes get all the cool stuff. 馃憤

Ok, I know this is ridiculous, but I am really loving my $1.97 Chinese Casio ripoff, on a $1 strap.

After getting this out for another thread, I had to wear it around the house.
The funny thing about these....they are tough as nails.

Hard to get one perfect shot of this guy, since it's raining out for the 98th day in a row...
