I've been on a Booker binge lately, and with the 2 Bookers, you get plenty of Dolphy as a bonus.

Win-Win

Keep listening to this at the moment. I think it's just perfection - the organ, the guitars, MCH, the poignant lyrics, the 6/8 time signature and laid back drumming, and one of my favourite guitar solos ever. Grows and expands and builds and builds... Beautiful. Not about the player but all about the song. Guitar solo at 3:45 for the impatient.

I used to hate playing with guys like this. They make it look so easy. To sound presentable I had to practice constantly which I know the greats do anyway but you can’t practice and get this good. This is a gift. When I say “hate” it was just jealousy

I hate to say “best” but Jaco imo was one of the greatest bass players who walked the earth. I used to order or download his tapes (ok I admit it going back to DVD’s when I was a kid and try to learn his playing via tablature. This is the one I most focused on it frustrated me for months until a buddy showed me some shortcuts. I never got it perfect but “black bird” by the Beatles solo on a 4 string bass is amazing. Jacos song is being slowed down here so you can follow the teacher Can’t seem to find a performance of it but I have it downloaded it’s beyond the beyond

Was Jaco the “best” hard to say I haven’t seen everyone but he’s up there

Chet Atkins is a proper legend. My dad had a few of his records that I used to listen to when he was younger. Have you heard the album he did with Mark Knopfler? Love that album, still occasionally attempt to play a couple of tracks from that when I get the guitar out.
