Its lovely!

My wife picked this up while in the states this past week for me, so I had a taste last night. Unlike the "regular" Grand Marnier, this uses much better quality Cognacs, and is more intense orange, with a lot less sweetness.

Not something I want all the time, but occasionally it's nice with a bit of good quality chocolate...

90% of taste comes from the olfactory nerve

Not sure on the percentage, but you are correct that smell is highly linked to taste. Your tongue can only detect 4 things: sweet, sour. salt, and bitter - and there's a school of thought that adds a 5th called "umami" (Japanese for a pleasant savory taste).

That's why, despite being a wino, I can't enjoy Bordeaux. It has a hint of pencil shavings in it's odor which disagrees with me.

Agree Al! Not a fan of the regular stuff....but the Cent Cinquantenaire is awesome. Biggest problem is that women will drink it too (with no sipping appreciation!) so it goes fast!

Definately something i know a lot more about than watches ...

I know - my wife had a "sip" last night also that turned into a glass when we had our Friday night "cocktails with Bill" at 10, so I suspect I will need to keep buying this one often...she usually drinks her Baileys, which I personally find to be disgusting...

At least she stays away from my Scotch! 😀

That watch would look much better on my arm than that bottle of wine. 😁

I love a good drink, I just don't drink alcohol very often. (Really!) My favorites include a nice bottle of red wine, Cognac or Armagnac, Scotch (single malt and blended), whiskey (rye and bourbon), vodka...You see I'm not very focused or discriminate (for the "record" I like Elvis AND The Beatles for anyone old enough to remember you had to be only one or the other)...
I have been waiting for some superb example of fine drink to share with you. Now with tongue planted firmly in cheek, I confess my latest guilty pleasure...
Bacardi Rum Torched Cherry.
I don't know how long it's been around but I only discovered it a couple weeks ago. I was one of those kids who liked cherry flavored cough syrup, and still love cherry flavor today. Who doesn't love a gourmet dark Maraschino cherry teasing from a properly made Manhattan?
I laughed at my newly found delight, thinking "now I can mark the point at which I became an alcoholic" (not truly a concern given my 30 years of drinking history). But I also think at some point I'll grow bored with it.
Until then, cheers from the under $10 USD shelf!

If you're out of Schlitz... you're out of beer!

Tom
I swear my father drank Schlitz to keep me out of his stash. Then came new Schlitz. Everybody just run away!

After a pretty mixed day of weather now enjoying a glorious evening in the garden.
Almost compulsory to quaff a large Bombay Sapphire and a little tonic 😀

Do you mean the crap Schlitz or the new 60s recipe Schlitz? Because when the 60s recipe version came out, I was done with other versions of "cheap, yellow beer".
