2007 Maison Bertrand Ambroise Corton le Rognet Grand Cru.

Can't remember a Corton so ready to go at such a relatively young age. Usually, it's two decades of cellaring before they're ready.

Haven’t been with my Wine group in a while, so this was a nice night. Surprising that we mostly brought young wines. Even more surprising that they drank well with minimal decanting:

Trying out the Glenmorangie Astar, thought it was a bit rough until I noticed it was 105 proof. (So now I know it’s a bit rough)

Think I’ll try Balvenie’s newest release, “JetRanger” next - I hear it’s better than the Astar 😁 😁 😁

sigh nobody's gonna get that joke

52.5’s a little rough sometimes a little branch( pure water) is needed.

I’ll have to hunt that Balvanie I’ve not seen them do a true cask strength edition.

Alas tonight just doing some Aviation cocktails as I forgot I had creme de violet in the fridge, and luckily had some some freash squeezed lemon juice laying around. Everyone has maraschino liquor laying around right? I’d post pics of the lovely blue hue but I am embarrassed by the glassware I’m too lazy to pull out the martini glasses and used a highball.

You know I might have a problem...

Aviation - very sentimental about that one for a lot of reasons.
Sub rosewater for the creme de violet to change it up.

Edit: 1:40 am central US time. Moved on to daiquiris made with Cuban Havana Club.

I like that idea. I’ve put it in the experiment list!!

Aviation’s are a special and unique cocktail, glad you have a special link to it.

It doesn't exist, I was making a joke about Glenmorangie naming a release "Astar"

Like I said, I knew nobody would get that joke 🤔

I’ve been lucky to meet the distillers for this. The 12 and 21 are on one still and the 15 on another. Thier stills date back to British Navy use. While I love thier stuff it is doctored a bit and sweetened esp in the 12 and 15.

Good knowledge. Thank you. Really glad I shared.
Sweetened... I still enjoy it. The 21 is SO good. I think it’s my favourite sipping rum. Do you have a fave? A recommendation?

Depends on what I’m using it for. I like the 12 over the 15 for a go to sipper esp at the current price point. The 21 for a little more special occasions. I mix a lot with the 12 though.

I keep a few Rums and Rhums in rotation depending on what I’m doing or whats left over from what I’m experimenting with. El Dorado is permanent though, I tend to buy the 12 3 or 4 bottles at a time and give it as gifts around the holidays.

Rums and Rhum are super varied hard to call anything a favorite or be able to give recommendations outside of El Dorado.

I never mix rum, so I only drink it straight. Have tried a number of different rums in the last while, and these are the highlights.

I like the Appleton Estates 21 YO...yes it's a big name distillery, but this one is quite good:

My wife has been back and forth to the DR a lot for work, and this one she brought back is very nice:

I don't have a photo but the last one she bought me is from Panama, and is pretty nice too:

I would say not as complex/smooth as the other two I've listed, but still good.

Cheers, Al

Yes!
Lovely stuff.
I’ve tried all except the Barceló Imperial.
Will put that on the list.
I really like the other two.
I found the Abuelo Centuria to be really different and smokey. Much less sweet and with a shorter finish. Lovely though.

It'll be a Glenfarclas for me today. I highly recommend it, a wonderful scotch.

Cheers
