One of the few Ardbeg expressions that wasn’t gracing the shelf. Picked this up tonight.

I’ve gone through a couple bottles of the Offerman. It’s interesting, and the youth comes through. I still prefer the 16 though.

A cheeky meal out with some Tsingtao, which went down well ahead of all the home cooking.

So do I. The 16 is classic Islay. Dry with a little hint orange peel The Offerman has that rich sweetness, dried nuts and figs. I also noticed that it’s peatier than the 16. The 16 peaty nose seems to have “melted” into the scotch. Both delicious but the 16 is my favourite of all. Sadly, becoming very difficult to get.

Excellent tasting notes! The sherry cask influence on the 16 makes it a very different beast from the bourbon-only casks used for the 11. I haven’t had the new Offerman edition that is finished in used Guinness casks.

EDIT: I just looked closely at your picture and realized you have the “new” Offerman edition. I have not gone through any of that, just the first Offerman from 2020.

There are a few whiskies that I keep one or two bottles in reserve for times like this. Ardbeg 10, Ardbeg Uigeadail, Lagavulin 16, Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength, Bruichladdich Port Charlotte, Talisker 18, Red Breast 15, Hibiki Harmony, Weller Antique, and Stagg Jr. These are all reasonably priced but delicious in their own space. I’m partial to heavily peated Islay Scotch, obviously. If I only have one unopened bottle of one of those, I start keeping my eyes open. This method allowed me to sail through the tariff war here without ever paying the inflated prices, and hopefully gets me through Covid.

Talisker 18,
Oh my….forgot about my all time favourite! It’s become onubtainium or unaffordable. My late dad and I polished off my last bottle a few years ago. It’s become an intense but distant memory.
You and I would get along fine!👍

If you’re ever in SE TN for some reason, give me a shout. Whiskey is for sharing.

I’ll take you up on that! I transit through Chattanooga and Nashville a few times per year.
