Back in the land of the living and enjoying a few beers / a break this week as the UK weather goes downhill. Some Hofbräuhaus original which caught the last of the sunshine, but for taste like my photo it is maybe a bit overexposed / one for tourists. Then MC Chouffe - dark and complex 8% Belgium been which is still surprisingly smooth and highly recommended (and brewed by Gnomes in Fairyland… which you will believe after a few of these). A high fermentation beer that re-ferments both in the barrel and in the bottle… dubbel Abbey beer style meets Scotch ale. Rounding off the week with my first full bodied Hofbräu Oktoberfest beer… which I really savoured. At 6.3% is not a session ale maybe… but of course it is.. eins zwei G’suffa … Prost !!
Nice choice on the Chouffe, I'm afraid I haven't taste the Hofbrauhaus one. I need to send you one of these 😀 though it is for the blonde one

Apéro Time with an Omer tonight 😀

Omer and Bobeline are very high on my favourites list. I did enjoy the Chouffe and have some left. I gave up trying to keep up with glasses (just too many beers :0).. Yesterday before a nice Claret with the Sunday roast I went for a Rochefort 6 - Belgian dubbel Trappist ale. Complex but still easy drinking / went down very nicely as an aperitif.

Inexpensive but recommended by my wine merchant to drink with the Sunday roast, in about an hour...

Out of interest how much to you pay for that wine? Thanks

Daughter needed a coronatest because of a slight fever during the weekend, so I am also grounded until a negative test result materialize.

The positive news is that I get to enjoy two more shots of the life giving black liquid from my espresso machine at home instead of the mediocre stuff at work. Beans from Peru.

I am not a big white wine drinker but we had a nice seafood meal last night and I found this in the rack. Sauvignon Blanc, Isabel Vineyard New Zealand (Marlborough). I would not normally wait so long to dink a bottle like this. It actually went down very well - fresh citrus fruits / nice acidity that a good match with the food (as much as my limited palate can offer :0)

I'm just seeing... You had a Rochefort Dubbel as an apéro ??

Ok... Respect... I'd rather have that as a last drink in the evening to sleep tight haha

One just needs to start early enough.... I would say it is not a regular choice :0)

So I just did some re-stocking... as I get older I increasingly stick with what I know having had a few expensive disappointments over the years. I do use this thread for inspiration / will go off piste again at some point on the wine front. I need to re-fresh some spirits as well (whiskey mostly) but don't want to go to crazy on the budget. I have just bought a new watch over the weekend / might need some funds to give that the kiss of life (will see what arrives :0).. I might need a drink after that..

came across this bottle the other day - I’d say, not great but fairly good, I find its younger sibling at 12 y/o a much nicer rum...

cheers!

😀

You, Sir, are a connaisseur 😀 ... I do agree with you on the 12 vs 18. Unfortunately, I emptied my 12yo to and 18yo bottle reserve :-(

As you can see, my favourite Rum all in all... Obviously, I do enjoy some other Cuban, Venezuelan, etc... Not keen on the French ones, too much perfume for my taste. Hence, what I like about this one, it is my "alcoholic".

Still have a few more 5yo and 7yo bottles for the coming winter days.

And waiting for a special occasion to open this one... If ever!

Found a few 4yo white ones getting dusty in my cellar!

I’m not sure about my connoisseur qualifications but I just learned from your post about the other Flor de Caña variations 👍 In the meantime, I’ll keep an eye for the 21 y/o, enjoy!

IPA from Bellwoods out of Toronto
I must admit that beer labels in North America are way funkier than around here 😀
IPAs never really took off much here, there are some but not that popular I believe. Mind you, our local beer selection is quite varied

Well, FdC is not really a shelter rum you'll find everywhere... You need to want to drink to go buy it 😀

Do try the 5yo and/or 7yo. First one rather nice for cocktails, second can start be for both cocktails or pure.

Weather is picking up again in the UK.... so just heading off for a (last?) summer BBQ... my special beer collection is depleted so I have grabbed a quick Supermarket selection... I think these should go down well with a burger or two :0)
