Glad you finally sourced some! You must be in the small group of people that don’t like elderflower. My mother is violently against it.

Or it over powered that great Gin you have there 😉

I decided the elderflower was more suitable for vodka and tonic. 👍

Theres a lot going on here and I'm pretty hammered so I'll just leave it.

And the Braulio Riserva - if you can find it, buy it. At any price.
Sourcing it tomorrow! I’ve been on an amaro kick recently.

I’m at Nine Fine Irishmen in NY and they have Gelston’s 25. Incredible Irish pour, and first time enjoying it. Perhaps not worth a second round though lol.

Not very manly after the fine whiskey pictured above, but it is hotter than hell in AZ.
Some frozen strawberries in some sparkling wine. Be gentle. The wife had it out when I got home.

Pretty good bang for your buck from these Jameson Caskmates. There's an IPA, Stout and another that I can't remember. IPA is my favourite as the empty bottle shows

My favourite thread on OF 😁

Today I am drinking this lovely lovely thing from Spain. Grenache. 2016. Organic. I taste cherries and blackberries. Mmm 🥰

Lousy day, lousy venue, lousy crew. What do you have? Is it cold and plentiful? Or just plentiful. Yeah. That'll work.

Not having fun

Scratch Brewing Sunflower.

A farmhouse ale brewed with sunflowers. Fermented with with their “wild house” cultures.

And I thought barrel aged stouts were hard to find......

I can’t easily source the reserve. But wow the base expression is great! It’s a nice sweet amaro with a hint of mint on it. Nowhere near as jarring as Fernet Menta (or Branca) but not as cloyingly sweet as some others!

First of all, Fernet Branca is a way of life. As far as amaro is concerned, fernet is my first love.

That said, I have traveled all over Italy, and in my opinion, Braulio Riserva is far superior to all of the others. Compared to regular Braulio, it is not overly sweet, and the herbal makeup is both unique and far more complex. It is perfectly balanced.

I dont think the riserva is distributed in the US. If I remember correctly, you are based in the LA area. One of my closest friends lives in Highland Park and is even more devoted to Amaro than I am. We have discussed ordering a case from Italy. If you want, PM me, and we can talk about a 3-way split.

Went through the cellar and found these old wines, a 88, 89 and two1990 Wynns Coonawarra Hermatige.
Had them over the weekend with my brother, firstly with a nice porterhouse steak and the next night with roast lamb.
They were past their best but still drinking well.
