Yeah, not much to cheer for over the years. A few good seasons, especially '81, but many lean years. Didn't keep up my support when they moved the franchise to Washington.

I know zero about Port wine, but my wife wanted to try one rather than a Reisling tonight with dessert. I got this recommended by the liquor store manager.

I'm a fan of the TF 20 yr, although it's overpriced here in Ontario. Overpriced booze will hardly be breaking news to my fellow Canadians though

Thx man, she will try it tonight. I got her some nice chocolate and some fresh strawberries too. I have no idea what, or who, makes a good Port. Im gonna give it a go too, but I’ll end up making something with bourbon regardless lol.

On the pier at Sesuit Harbor in Dennis, MA. The oysters were grown half a mile away.

Cockburn is easy to remember common and priced decently. Suggest Tawny for sweeter.

Good news fellas, she likes the port. I do too, but I digress. I prefer whiskey.

Bourbon is my fav, here is my ginger apple cider for tonight. It’s delicious and refreshing. Key for me is having a good strong proof, such as this 133 barrel proof or even an inexpensive OGD 114.

Can any of you tell a taste diff between an Islay, Highland, etc. of Scotch? Is this just marketing? I’m fine if it is, just curious as it seems like some bottles like to drop the Islay name when their not even completely made there.

I'll never claim to have some sophisticated palate, but Ardbeg, Lagavulin etc are distinctly Islay with the taste and smell of peaty smoke. I'm sure @Foo2rama can comment on some of the marketing aspects of using the Islay name and if they truly deserve it

Yes. I can usually ID the distillery.

I’m curious what you mean by “completely made there”

In general Islays are peated. This is because they have no wood as it was deforested in the Middle Ages. Due to high winds trees cannot regrow there. So peat was the only material able to be burned for the toasting and malting process.

Outside Islay some use light peat per tradition. Inside Islay not all peat. Bruichladdich for example has zero peat except for Octomore the most heavily peated scotch you can buy. Their peated stuff is sold under Port Charlotte. Ardbeg, Bruichladdich, and Laiphroig are all walking distance.

Chilling out with a great Italian expression of the noble Bordeaux grapes. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and petit Verdot...

@Foo2rama i should have said the blended scotches instead, I saw Islay named dropped on two diff ones while reading reviews. Soundedlike Islay is considered the epitome of a nice Scotch.

If this region is known for peat, it isn’t for me. I prefer Balvanie, I don’t find them to be peaty.
