Would You Pay $400 Extra For a Full Set?

I did, and I haven't had any use for them. (except for the original sales receipt, that showed where it was originally sold; Import/export company in Langley, Virginia. That was kind of interesting ) The box just takes up space and I am not going to sell this watch (2254.50). But maybe those who inherit me would have some use for it in the future.

Maybe your tastes changes in the future and you want to sell it, but then you will just get your money back. So do you want to have the money now or in the future when you might sell?

Good luck you are getting a great watch! Mine says hello!

I like having the box and papers, that's just me, although not all my watches have these, if I had the option I would take it. It's not an investment thing, I've never sold a watch and for now don't intend to

Absolutely not. Those boxes don’t hold up well, and if it hasn’t already started to decay, it likely will when you get it.

Only time I want a box with an older watch is if it was a special one (i.e., for a limited edition). Only time I want papers is if the watch is newer and would still be under warranty.

Otherwise, I’m not paying extra for a worthless box and pieces of plastic.

It is a yes from me as well.....think how much a lot of us love it when a vintage full set turns up of almost anything... then again we need people to throw the boxes away to keep the rare finds special ;0)

I’ve bought one without box but with papers. It gives an indication that it’s a watch that was at least a bit cared for and not flipped 100 times (or maybe even stolen at one point).

How much does this watch cost, anyway? If it's a $2k watch, then $450 sounds ridiculous, but if it's a $20k watch, then it's in the noise.

I bought a 2531.80 about a year ago with box and papers, but I wasn’t bothered about having either - just wanted a decent example of the watch.

Mine is a 2006 example (so late on for this reference), but Super Luminova was a dealbreaker for me. I paid £2,300 to a dealer on C24, which was a par rate at that time. The watch is in good nick, too:

Happy hunting! It’s a cool reference.

Depends on what is important to you. Me personally, I like having full sets. Maybe it’s the OCD in me but I like stashing away the boxes in neat stacks. I do the same for my sneakers. Maybe I have issues?

Only an issue if you go into meltdown if you get a scuff on a sneaker or scratch on your watch.
I was on vacation with my ex 20 years ago and brought along a 1940’s Linhof 4x5 Field camera that was in beautiful shape. I was setting up a picture in front of a beautiful vista and the original cable release broke. I lost my shit and started cussing and fussing over it- my wife yelled “you are ruining vacation!”.
I never brought a delicate vintage camera with me on a vacation again.

Put it this way: If the watch is a lifer, in 20 YEARS, will you wish you had the box papers and how much difference will 450 be then?

My current wife says that to me as soon as I awake everyday.

Buy $450 worth of wine and cellar it for 20 years would be more enjoyable 😗

At one point in time, Omega made boxes that were not meant to stand the test of time. 20 years from now you wont have anything but a stain from where a box used to be. If it is a Red box, it definitely is not worth the additional $450.

I can't disagree with this!

and @Scarecrow Boat I'd heard of the red omega cases that fall apart badly, but didn't know when exactly they were from. Thanks for the information.

Papers would MAYBE be something you'd want to have in 20 years for a "complete set" sort of thing, but I agree... 450 on a watch that old is probably a huge amount of cost. What does it cost to get an extract from Omega? if that's cheaper and someone really wanted "papers" that would be the better go, right?

Can you (or someone) point me to where I can line up an extract? I'm having issues with the Omega website...

If you are in the US, you can't order it online. Go to an OB or search the forum for threads describing the process. I haven't done it for a while, but the last time I bought one, I sent an email to customer service, and they sent me a PDF form, which I submitted by email and paid using a credit card.

I just learned that extracts were a thing like three weeks ago, so if it were me I'd call an OB for more info if someone else doesn't chime in.

Personally yes!
If you or your heirs ever decide to sell it, it will make it a quicker and easier sale
