Wow! 78 bids, over $700. Some people actually must like the watch.
Trying to make sense of the dial, I come to the conclusion that the monkey just farted, & some would find that funny. What kind of person wants that on a watch?

I don't know. Still searching for words to describe the watch...

It turns out that the monkey is a celebrity: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billiken

Could it possibly be legit? If an organisation ordered 100 watches with a Billiken, would Omega have done it?

Ow. That one takes 1st prize. At least here's a chance to get a cheap Connie. What do you have to pay for a decent (re-)redial?

Aside from the crappy fonts, the paint was laid on way too thick and rounded the piepan edges. Always an easy giveaway!
Could there alså be a factory variation in the pie-pan edge sharpness? To me, some original dials seem sharper than others.

These are supposed to have a very sharp edge while later 168.004s have a less distinct transition 😀

One of the best/worst in the thread!

I don't really have much to offer the forum as I don't have a watch collection, this is my Grandfathers bumper I have inherited. My Dad had the piece serviced a few years after my Grandfathers passing, I am fairly certain the dial has been re done, looking from what I have seen here on this forum its a pretty bad job too, cant blame my dad though, he was trying to gift me something I would really appreciate and did and still do. I have no idea of the movement cal as I have never seen inside the case back. I only know its a bumper due to the feeling feel on your wrist, or when rocking it from side to side as I witnessed my Grandfather do, at rest at 6pm every evening while watching the ABC news in his oversize leather recliner when I was knee high to a Grasshopper. I kind of wish now that my Father only had the movement serviced, to me it looks over painted, over lacquered and not square and symmetrical, but most importantly it's not the same dial face my Grandfather looked at after his exit from military service after WW2 and the rest of his life and journeys and life experience around the planet till his last breath......shame really.
I know its off topic, I have included a pic of an original service receipt and the original case.
Apologies I don't have a macro lens for my D90.

@BenKenobi A touching story that underlines how much watches tie us together. To me, the dial is certainly not one of the “worst redials”!
Wear it and think of your dad. Service it and pass it on.

Sir,

You are being much too critical of this fine family timepiece. It is far from the worst redial we have seen. In fact only watch nerds would ever notice or care! Have the movement serviced, replace the crystal and wear it with pride!

Thanks felsby and ac106, I know for a family timepiece I should not be so critical, but the more I look at it the worse it seems, perhaps due to the pure simplicity of the markings, I will have it serviced and a new crystal as suggested.
