Excellent episode last night. I can't wait to see the season finale and next year to find out what the Night King will do with his new pet. I think we are shaping up for an epic showdown next season. As for the books the first three I thought were pretty good and then the fourth wasn't worth opening. I haven't read the fifth.
I skipped the 4th book, read a few synopses online and went right into the 5th. Definitely worth the read, great details not featured in the show that I'm sure will come into the storyline in the books later on.

Good call. All you missed was a lot of walking in circles and Circei being Circei.

I remained strong, ignored the leaks and spoilers and watched it last night. Shit just got real, eh?

From the finale trailer, looks as if we're off to the dragon pit for the armistice meeting...

I know I'm trying to be sensible in a triple A film production, but why didn't they just use all three dragons to burn the Night King in the last episode? He was right there! 🤦

This soap opera always have been silly, but now it's just plain idiotic.

I smell a cliff hanger finale and a movie. Anyone else? Too many loose threads to wrap this next week. Ya had to know that the Night King wanted a dragon. What does it spray? Ice?

Which begs the question "why are you watching/commenting here?"

There was a myriad of extremely questionable writing decisions this week... everyone is raving about it but to be honest I thought it was one of the weaker episodes of the show. The entire concept of going beyond the wall to capture a wight was so idiotic I'm still kind of shocked that they actually did it.

They needed to find a way to lose one dragon without everyone hating on Cersei - her secret weapon failed, so the only way to kill a dragon was with ice.

And also to prevent Jon from going straight back to Winterfell and reuniting with family.

Sure, I suppose that makes sense from a high-level story perspective, but maybe they shouldn't have written themselves into a wall in the first place. Shows fall apart when you start sacrificing logic at the character level just to further the plot.

Whilst I was fanboying all over the episode, the rational part of my mind was asking:

1. How far is it back to the wall, and what's the land speed of an unladen Gendry (that uses all his upper body strength, wether it be rowing or swinging a hammer in a forge)
2. What's the average air speed of a raven, and how far is it from Eastwatch to Dragonstone.

Dragons are magic, so let's not think about how long it takes for the airborne cavalry to arrive once they've got the message... but boy, those guys where standing there for ages. No wonder the Hound got bored.

There's another season to come yet.

And the dragon? It's not an Ice Dragon. It's undead. Like the polar bear and the horses the white walkers and the Night King use. I wonder if it'll still be fire, or if it'll be whatever a dragon creates fire from, just not lit. So some sort of corrosive?

Well, with one episode and one season left, story goes out the window and action comes in ;₩

I do agree it's getting a bit messy. Series finales are rarely satisfying. So are TV based movies but this one could be a sore temptation. Prepare for dangling story threads.......

This episode was 75 minutes long and they are saying that next season's six episodes could be as long as 90 minutes each. I think they will have enough time to get things wrapped up, but I also agree that things will probably be a bit rushed. I would have been happier if by this point the struggle for the iron throne was over, it has dragged now dragged on in some form for seven seasons and has gotten tedious. I also think that unfortunately the authors of the show, as well Martin in the books, have managed to make the coming of the Night King more of a sideshow rather than the main event.
