Rybakina adopted well, and once she got the feel it was all on her racquet. She played great and deserves the win. If her being a Russian Kazak is a problem, it's one that Wimbledon created for themselves.
^Exactly this. You would think it would have crossed the bosses' minds. From what I could see though, everyone present was gracious, and both the two players and the spectators enhanced their standing. An enjoyable match and lovely weather as well. Sometimes I really enjoy the women's game because there is a better chance to see the skills and tactics involved, and this was one of those times.

There was a time when I didn't watch a lot of men's tennis (Sampras era) when it was serve, volley, done. It's quite boring to watch that happen over, and over, and over...so I focused more on women's where as you say, there's more variety.

Of course there are sometimes boring baseline tennis in both sides now, but we are seeing more variation now than we have in a while, as people realize it wins matches. Not sure I can recall an event where I've seen so many drop shots played in recent times...one of my favourite shots to play myself, so I enjoy seeing the pros do it far better than I can.

Aussie’s win the men’s doubles! Great effort from the Croatian team, in particular Pavic playing with a broken wrist! Not on his racquet side, but still prevented him from hitting his normal two handed backhand on ground strokes and volleys.

I think it really depends which Nick shows up, you never know if its the guy who beat Djoker twice or the guy who gets upset at his players box and strops.

I’d love to see Kyrgios win, if only for the probable royal faux pas that’s he’ll make when the Duchess of Cambridge presents him with the trophy 😉

I am a pretty casual but lifelong tennis fan. Funny how this started out with ‘anyone but Kyrgios… or Djokovic’, and now it’s just them. I admire Djokovic for his game and, like only Nadal really (Federer, my favourite, never *quite* had as much grit), his incredible mental toughness. I try not to judge the players by their personalities, but for me, Kyrgios brings it onto the court, so even as an Australian, I just can’t stand him. Having said that, I still hope he wins tonight. His Trump-like narcissism can’t get any worse, anyway.

I prefer women’s tennis at the moment actually. Last night’s final was great, and I love watching Swiatek.

P.S. I know this is a bit pointless but just want to say congratulations here to Max Purcell and Matt Ebden on winning the ‘gentlemen’s’ doubles. From what I can tell, Ebden is one of the nicest and most down-to-earth guys in tennis (reminds me of Pat Rafter in that respect), and is a serious WIS too. Happy for him.

Watching the men's final now! What a great performance by Rybakina yesterday to take her first major.

It's been a really great tournament

As expected, Kyrgios losing the plot already arguing with his box blaming them ::facepalm1::

I can't read his lips, but he seems to be blaming them whenever he misses a first serve. 😕

Yes, it’s simply childish. Not in a moral sense, but in the sense that it is like what young kids do when they are scared and frustrated!

I find watching Kyrgios a little uncomfortable. Super talented but clearly he is always battling inner demons and to see it in such open display is a little disconcerting

Pure class from Novak from start to finish. A true champion, not much else needs to be said.

When he yells at his box or at linespeople, I think he makes a lot of his audience feel uncomfortable, some of them even unsafe if they know the feeling of being yelled at like that.

God, he really checked out in that tiebreak yet was so close to breaking minutes earlier.

Women's final is set now. I don't think anyone would have predicted Rybakina in the final - certainly not me, but she has been solid and able to control her emotions so well. She pretty much hammered Halep today. I think she is going to give Jabeur a very tough time by taking away time with her power. I think it will be difficult for Jabeur to playa lot of the variety she normally does with how little time she's going to have on service returns, and even rally groundstrokes.

This was a good call, Archer. It was a bit sad to see Ons lose her impressive powers and belief and basically just get drubbed after a great first set. Elena had that thing great servers have when they are holding easily: a freeness to just hit away. Very good final.

Swearing in front of Prince George is a real no go. I don’t think he has any common sense. But a great tennis player.

really wanted him to beat boring Novak. But hey ho congratulations to the better man

I am not part of the "woke" brigade but just find someone washing his linen in public a little uncomfortable.

Anyway. What a performance he gave regardless of his antics. If he could somehow harness the chip on his shoulder he would be phenomenal.
