I definitely feel like solid gold will come back in, I believe a few years away though, still.

These two were recently launched simultaneously- identical apart from the gold color and face color ... the YG is now worth $10k more than the WG. I had the choice of either at the same initial price .... guess which one I picked 🤦

These are outliers which benefited from the "John Mayer Talking Watches with Hodinkee bump" though...
Mostly driven by speculation rather than taste.
I will nevertheless acknowledge that a bit of gold feels great on the wrist... 😁

Another couple, this time Seamasters, gold and black 😎

Wow, that crosshair hobnail dial....! Who gives a flying crap about fads and tastes, I'd wear that all day long.

A SEIKO 7A28 I used to have. Unfortunately just gold plated, so no fish or meat and I sold it. Still love the iconic 80ies design though.

Yeah, 80 year-old's and rappers...not demographics I tend to get my fashion direction from.

What I can tell you is that I have a good friend who is a goldsmith, and he has his pulse on what people are buying, and he tells me that although yellow gold is making a slight come back, most still prefer white gold over yellow, in particular the younger demographic. Rose gold is also popular (less so than white), and for me would be my preference when it came to gold watches...

If I like a yellow gold watch, like say a connie piepan, I don't give a rat's @ss if it would appeal to a rapper. Though it probably wouldn't unless it was iced out. White gold is WAY WAY overdone in the jewellery market right now, and truthfully most white gold is actually Rhodium plated anyway - you aren't even seeing real gold.

I do notice yellow gold is slowly starting to take up more space in display cases again. Full disclosure, I only own 2 gold watches right now and one of them is white gold. But that could easily change. I'd own a Rolex President in a heartbeat if I found a dial I liked for a fair price and a decent un-stretched bracelet.

Because that's what the market wants, as I already mentioned...🙄

I understand that, but I'm not sure it's translating to gold watches not realizing fair values.

Which is a claim I've never made...

with all the crazy prices that SS vintage watches have reached, the shortage of SS at Rolex (so promoting now SS/Gold and full gold) Do you think that full 18k gold watches will become trendy again?
I believe that always will be a classic but makes me wonder if again people will use them as daily watch not just for special occasions. What are your thoughts
Thanks

This may have been noted already, but trends are by nature ever changing, fickle, and often circular. This means that the craze over stainless steel watches will definitely fizzle some day. Something else, perhaps gold watches, will replace SS for a time, and then fizzle - and so on, and so on, etc. This is why those who are "investing" in SS pieces are ill advised to do so. It may work in the very short run, but sooner or later the trends will get you.

To answer the OP's question, yes.

I buy sainless not for investment, but because it's often less worn out, often less over-polished, often isn't corrodede, and unlike platted, capped, filled, etc. it doesn't "brass" 😀

Of course, even stainless cases can be butchered - caveat emptor 😀

Honestly, I’ve never had or seen a gold capped Omega “brass,” in fact I own several gold capped watches in excellent condition. IMO it’s not hard to find very nice examples of gold capped and solid gold watches.

I have seen it, actually. I had a really otherwise nice seamaster bumper where the capped lugs were through. Bothered me enough I sold it.

Also sold a nice capped connie piepan around same time that I regret selling.

It's been a long time that sellers say "gold is the next".
I like some rose gold 35-38mm case watches, with leather (vintage) or rubber (new) strap.
But I don't think that gold is a real trend, right now.
