These will whenever the 1970s hairstyles and tuxedos make a comeback (By The Way this was astronaut Dave Scott in 1975)

Gold watches have never been out of style among people, only among collectors

Even then, there are lots of solid gold collectors, just less interest in platted, filled, capped. You need deep pockets though.

You are right...I see plenty of people in their 80's wearing yellow gold...

Lol... good quip, but amongst non-Wis, most people I know want gold and cant afford it.

Half the millenials who work for me are wearing gold tone fashion watches or no watches at all. If they had disposable income, the gold would be real - they seem to take their cues these days from R&B artists who are re-popularizing yellow gold bling. Even women are in on the 35mm+ gold watch game. Ymmv.

I wore an 18kt accutron 218 yesterday with a gold dial and it was the young women who asked me about it. They were disappointed to learn there was over $1k of gold in the watch case alone and that it was a long discontinued watch - out of their reach.

Gold goes in cycles, just because its dead in the US does not make it dead everywhere else.
There are certain cultures which will always favor gold due to history or religious ties.
I like gold, unfortunately I have very fair skin and it just does not look right in general.

You can always start with a bit of gold.
(Picked this up a few years ago)

I always find it odd that Omega did put gold indices dials in otherwise stainless watches. Totally clashes with modern sensibilities.

I'm OK with full gold (very OK) , it's bi-metal two-tone that I don't like.
This is the only gold watch I possess, It's serial number is from 1986, I've owned it over 20 years: (it's nice to have a bit bling occasionally)

Yeah, 80 year-old's and rappers...not demographics I tend to get my fashion direction from.

What I can tell you is that I have a good friend who is a goldsmith, and he has his pulse on what people are buying, and he tells me that although yellow gold is making a slight come back, most still prefer white gold over yellow, in particular the younger demographic. Rose gold is also popular (less so than white), and for me would be my preference when it came to gold watches...

Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic, 2824-2 movement. Love gold against a white face. Runs well too.馃憤

Just the two in my meagre collection

Thanks to @Mazoue for the Polerouter (&pix). The 1908 19 ligne belonged to my grandfather Richard Owen Williams. They knew a thing or two about personalising possessions back then...

One of my early gold watch buys turned out to be the cheapest of all my watches - certainly less than I paid for vintage Constellations - but its design still gives me as much pleasure as any of them. The vast majority of Movado Museum watches I see online are ugly, clunky distortions of the original superbly clean design, but this one from the sixties gets it right (in my humble opinion). It is the closest to a zen watch design I could imagine. Movado Factories (Zenith) 2552C movement for those that are interested.

Imho, solid gold watches are already becoming trendy, wether on vintage or recent. Wouldn鈥檛 even apply the word trendy, solid gold is a beautiful element and still today I don鈥檛 understand why acceptance is so low. But I pretty believe soon it will change.

Not trendy?

At one time, these were popular among astronauts. Still good enough for me.....
