Will the DSOTM ever become a classic? How do you see its value evolving?

Still trying to find one in a shop nearby. It is tempting to order, but one should know better than to online order something like a pricey watch based on photos and youtube drooling.

I've heard many comments on how it wears small, not feeling 44.25 at all, so that will probably not be an issue. Not sure about thickness tho, I'm somewhat used to my current 13mm watch. The DSOTM is 16mm.

This is the watches biggest downfall. The 9300 in general makes for a thick watch especially with the clear case back. If I could have a slimmer watch and eliminate the clear case back I would in a heart beat. It's not like I couldn't change the cases out if I felt like being able to see the movement for a stint. Now if all this is moot and a solid back wouldn't slim it down then my apologies for thinking out loud.

I can't wear the GSOTM with quite a few designer French cuff shirts unless I roll the sleeves up (which looks good in certain situations). Today's dress expectations are not up to par with the past. Wearing French cuff shirts with a jacket or without can be pulled off where in the past it would be frowned upon. Namely Ralph Lauren Purple, Tom Ford, and a few other designers make the cuffs really small which doesn't mix well with a hockey puck sitting on one's wrist. But I've learned that going with Bespoke dress shirts is the best thing I've ever discovered. Every part of the shirt can be made however one wants it to be and the stylist are great at getting the fit correct on the first try most of the time. And the cost is right on par with a nice dress shirt but it's totally custom.

Sorry for the rant but the height of the DSOTM watches is my only complaint. It's not a big enough complaint that it really bothers me being that I wear it 5-6 days out of the week at the very least. Omega will eventually make slimmer watches as that interest by enthusiast will never fade away. Just look at AP, PP, JLC, ALS, etc.... the list could go on and on with high end watch brands that produce thinner watches. There are tradeoffs of course but a happy medium will do for those that wish to advertise a strong, hefty, working mans watch that's built to withstand shock and every day abuse.

All in all its tall but very very sexy and favored over many Rolex models by me and I was admittedly more of a Rolex fan than Omega until I bought the Grey Side. Don't get me wrong. I still love some of my Rolex's just as much as before it's just that I love my Omega even more.

Can someone confirm the exact lug to lug size? 50mm?

Yes it's right at 50mm but remember that the lugs conform to the wrist so they aren't straight 180* with the case. They are slightly rounded downward which make it appear to have shorter lugs.

Anyone agrees that the Original DSoTM is the ' de facto Moonwatch ?"
Love the Black Black's Urban Stealth Coolness factor but honestly i still question its legitibility & visibility .What black supernova coating is Omega talking about ? I was struggling to see the date for Crying Out Loud. I have superfast reflexes skills but i couldnt Read the damn time in 1/10 th of sec !!!
For The Love of God somebody please place a signboard pointing to every Black Black DSoTM on Display that reads :
" For Achromatopsic Customers Only "
These People have defective or absences of Cones in the retina.Incredibly as it seems they only see Black ,White & shades of Grey BUT like an Owl their vision is Superb under very low Light Visibility !
Wait a Minute.! Isnt there a Pitch Black version too... ? Oh Never Mind... !

Dear Riviera Paradise ,
I assume You have visited the Beautiful French Riviera in Southeast France or it's a name of a Hotel in the Famous Beach Resort ? Sweet. I wont call You Uncle or Sir anymore then . .perhaps ..Monsieur Riviera then ? Ha6x!
Sweet. I get it. Monsieur Riviera is only 40 + yrs Young ! So Cute..

I have indeed visited the the French Riviera...but the avatar tag "Riviera Paradise" is actually a union of two wonderful things I love: guitar playing from the late dear departed Stevie Ray Vaughan + sea, riviera and river views in general - I find both to be incredibly soulful.😀

Riviera Paradise is an instrumental song that celebrates SRV´s recovery from drugs and alcohol and being at peace (unfortunately he died a year later in a freak helicopter crash - which almos took out Eric Clapton and Robet Cray as well). It is not my favourite SRV song (Life Without You, Texas Flood and his superb rendition of Voodoo Child are my favourites), but it does tie in with the scenery part of the avatar better.😀

Regarding Moi...Monsieur Riveira being "cute"...no regrettably I am not, but my wife and kids certainly are (12XHa!)😉

On-topic part of the post here->: regarding the DSOTM discussion...I actually do think the DSOTM original will become an "Omega Icon", as it was the first to spawn a generation of derivatives, it also has the Pink Floyd reference and is probably still Omega´s biggest seller within that range. I do not think that this will translate to resale value in the future, which will be influenced by a myriad of factors discussed in this thread so far.

Although this is completely off topic...I thought I would shamefully post some of my personal sea / riviera and river pictures here just to setup the weekend for everyone, and does explain better the origin of the "Riveira Paradise" avatar tag. Cheers.

Superb watches. Love the renditions👍 Your SM300MC on the JB Nato is actually one of the watches that flies under the radar here in Rio and I can safely use on my early beach walks...before Archer asks...yes I do use loads of insect repellent😉.

Here is a shot of mine in Galapagos saying hi to a another young sea lion that just got out of the water and came ambling along to where I was sitting and then just rested for a nap. The animals are incredibly tame there...a nature lover´s paradise..my kids loved meeting the giant tortoises. Peace...wishing you a super weekend😀

Uh oh. I walked into an AD today and asked to try it on, hoping the size would finally kill this idea. A ridiculously wide and fat watch.

Sadly, it did not look clownishly big on my small wrist. It is a bit wider than the 42mm Aquaracer I was wearing, but the difference was minimal. Visually, it does wear very small, as people stated

The black look/short curved lugs do make it look more compact and it's fine even in small wrists.

More surprisingly, it didn't feel like a fat thick brick like a Carrera Cal 16 with exactly the same thickness. Must be the dark ceramic vs shiny steel.

The overall feeling of quality/attention to detail was great. I didn't ask for a loupe, but felt tempted to.

I tried a Grey Side too, because why not.
It's also also a beautiful model. The dial is even more impressive in some ways, the dusty silver, more detailed cutout on the date window, lume on the pusher, etc.

But I don't have anything like the DSOtM and find that look a lot more generic/easy for a first choice. If I already had a dark/sporty looking watch, I'd definitely pick the Grey

And so, sadly, the visit didn't help me save money as I had hoped with this huge 44.25mm watch.

I got home and ordered from a grey dealer for 7500 EUR, for the newer version with the ceramic/titanium deployment clasp (311.92.44.51.01.007)

The one I tried at the AD was the oldest and slightly cheaper model .003, and was priced at 9.900 EUR. They wouldn't budge and said it was already below the Omega price, 10.300). The clasp version would be around 500 more.

Even from the grey dealer its still a lot of money for a watch. I hope this thing will be reliable and strong enough to last.

Still worried about the depreciation, which was the origin of this thread. I think a 30% hit is acceptable if I later want to get rid of it.

With some luck, this model will become loved/valued even being a mass market unit with no production cap, but if not, at least it looks awesome live.

Waiting for the delivery estimation. No deposit requested yet... Now is the perfect time to be convinced not to do it. 😁

I had the same hope when I walked into the Omega Boutique, thinking about going after one. It's a damn cool watch and I think you'll love it 👍

Hahaha, I did remember the comment when I was walking in. I really expected to leave disappointed because it looked huge and plastic black and dull, but instead, I left disappointed because it would make me spend a lot.

It just looks great live, and indeed not as wide and thick as expected, and quite light but still feeling solid. The strap was also very pleasant, nothing like the nylon-cheapness that it looks like in the photos.

Now regarding the original topic here, I still wonder how this model will behave in the used market in the future. But other than that... Nice, very nice.

Yep, the strap was really cool and really helped "make" the watch! The original tang-buckle version seemed a bit too stiff to want to deal with on a daily basis , but I figure I'll head back sometime soon to try the deployant clasp version.

It will depreciate a bit, but it's a cool enough watch it wouldn't bother me 😉

Glad you made it to an AD to try on the DSOtM. Trying that watch on and hanging around this forum is going to cause major damage to the bank account!
As far as the depreciation concern, you've mitigated most of it by purchasing it grey market. In any case, congratulations on the order and post some pictures when you get it!

That watch in your pic wears a lot larger than the DSOTM series. JFYI

Good grief, now I have to head to the Omega Boutique to try one on!

Good grief, now I have to head to the Omega Boutique to try one on!

Be careful. My wife went with me to see the dark and grey and she was floored just as much as I was with both pieces in the flesh. So totally different than photos. I tried on the grey since that's what I was wanting more before going in the boutique and just looked at the dark because I could tell that if I tried it on that I wouldn't be able to make my mind up which could have led to both watches since the grey dealer had both for $7300. It wouldn't have been as hard spending almost $15,000 since I was in the boutique holding over $25,000 after taxes. Bad way to look at it but even my wife couldn't believe how they couldn't negotiate and literally willingly lost so many sales because of it.

I just bought my 1st Omega, which is The DSOTM with Deployment Claps.. My 1st Intention was I want A watch that shine forever without Scratches or flaws even after 10 or 20 years.. I always a fan of ceramic watches as I had a Rado full ceramic watches for daily wear and it shine like the first day I bought after 1 years of daily abused. Hence, I decided to get a watches that made out of ceramic.... If you care about second hand value i think the Speedy Professional retains better value. In my country the DSOTM is rised about 1k usd for both tang buckle and deployment model in 2016 compared to 2015.. Enjoy shopping..

However, do not ever drop it, it the case break, ready to fork out 7k usd to repair...

Very nice Rahkshi007. Do you find the clasp comfortable and adjustable enough? The one I tested was the .003 with the first strap.

To get back to the OP's question, value in a collectors' market is essentially a function of: (1) rarity; (2) historical significance; and (3) aesthetics. All of these are hard to predict, including rarity. "Rare" could mean rare in excellent condition if the item or any part of it doesn't age well, or there could be a rare version or variant, especially if the manufacturer makes even slight changes over the years. Trying to predict all that is a fool's errand. However, as a poster here mentioned, gold never goes out of style entirely, and overall, if you have a good eye, the aesthetics factor may be the easiest one to predict. But all this will really only matter to your children or grandchildren.

Honestly, I feel my Rado deployment claps is more comfortable but this omega's claps is still wearable. If u frequently "changing the size" or wear by different person i suggest you get the tang buckle. Changing the "hole" of the strap in the deployment claps is quite tricky as it can easily scratch the side wall of the leather strap when you try pull the strap out of its current "hole". Hence my suggestion is, avoid changing the "hole" of the deployment claps, as I asked the AD they have no solution for it. Maybe I need open a topic on this matter to seek for solution..

I have to say...all this discussion on the DSOTM with photos has generated a new personal interest in this watch, which I had to a certain extent discarded after purchasing the Speedy XI-45 on the TI Bracelet...these forums are pure consumer evil😀

The DSOTM does seem to be very much loved by its owners, wears small for its 44.5mm size and the ceramic case seems to be quite resistant. The Apollo 8 and implicit Pink Floyd reference are "cool factors" for me. The main issue for me is whether it would be really limited as a "casual watch"...as I might have too many in that category right now.

Could some owners / forum colleagues kindly offer some insight here as to whether they do manage to pull it off "out of the box with standard texture strap" for business attire...or would a black crocodile strap / deployant be required? (I do believe that @Rahkshi007 has a leather strap setup in his photo above. Cheers.
