Will the 1861 Moonwatch go up in value now that it's discontinued ?

What @Archer mentions above.

I also recall that Omega is the one brand that sells a lot more ladies watches than men’s watches compared to many other brands.

That's very interesting fact if true. That's a lot of Constellations.

So Omega sells more ladies watches than men's watches overall? or more so comparatively to other brands? I believe its the latter that's true.

Also, at the rate the new 3861 Omegas are being discounted, I doubt the older 1861 will rise in value too much but will hold their value inclusive of inflation.

Please see this new ad from a well known dealer. I think the asking price for a 1991 3590.50 has gone well past the rate of inflation.

New ad? You posted that on the previous page 2 days ago....
And as you noted, just because someone is asking a certain amount does not mean they are going to get it.

In other news I have a 2018 Speedy that I'm about to list.
$9599 for OF members.

I'm going to list my now discontinued FOIS for $35,000. It comes with 3 extra bracelets and an OEM rubber strap with deployant buckle.

I think that well preserved fully original 861 models with tritium dials and handsets will continue to appreciate over time as tritium is no longer used and the 861 was flown by NASA and orbited the moon. You can’t say either about the 1861 luminova version, and in my view that makes price appreciation far less likely.

New ad relative to the conversation. Not new as in this morning. The point is that people keep posting that older Speedmasters will “stay the same” or “rise slightly with inflation”. I think Rolex has caused residual market desirability for discontinued models and the prices will increase more than that. I guess only time will tell but we can revisit this thread in 18 months and see where things stand.

I sold a FOIS 5 months ago for $3600. A quick search now shows none less than $4600. That’s a 25% increase give or take. You’ll have to wait a little bit to get your 35k but anybody who doesn’t think prices aren’t increasing isn’t looking very hard

How old was yours when you sold it?

Like others have said I think it’s too early tell. From some of the early data on watch charts, it looks like Hesalite is up while the Sapphire Sammy is down a little since the new release. Both are overall up year over year though which is no surprise.

It doesn't surprise me that speedie prices have been climbing over the last year as it covers the MSRP price hike from back in September last year and the fact that they are now discontinued, as to if it will continue...

I'm more confident that the older 321s and 861s will continue to increase which is a pain for me, I'm still to go that route one day...

The 861's don;'t seem to be in super demand, and they've been discontinued for decades.

I've been in contact with my AD, I have a 311.30.42.30.01.006 in 99+ condition with all boxes/sleeves, papers, tags and all the swag that came with it. I asked for a 310.30.42.50.01.002 (new sapphire sandwich w/bracelet 3861 movement) he's waiting for more stock, I'm 1st in line for the next one. With trade, quoted $3365 OTD or less including taxes. Doing some math, I'm getting a bit more for the 311 than I paid for it, so the 1861's are apparently, at least, holding their value. Really looking forward to a METAS Certified Speedmaster with sapphire that I can daily wear that finally hacks. Probably will wear it with the bracelet for a while, then switch to my deployant strap for warmer weather.

I think that rather than any sort of huge appreciation in cost of a used 1861, we’re going to see the value of used 1861 artificially propped up by the significant increase in price of the 3861. It has effectively increased the financial entry barrier for any and all Moonwatches and the used market will benefit from this as its priced gets dragged up to some stabilised level.

Any increase will be modest, let's face it they have made millions of them.
