this post from Robert-Jan still leaves a whole lot of room for speculation:

Thanks, most helpful 馃憤

Don't think so. Not yet for sure. Too many made. Maybe in 10-20 years when you'll look into a (almost) BNIB.
I for sure got an 1863 a month ago from an AD (at a discount) but because I wanted to get hold of one of the last sold new through an AD.
I wear it almost daily, in rotation with some other ones, and I have no intent selling it. Not today, not tomorrow. It's a keeper. But therefore I shy away anyway from hesalite models 馃檨

Everything will eventually go up. It's called inflation, right?

Except you can still buy any Breguet, Franck Muller, Cartier, or even certain unpopular Patek models for thousands less than somebody paid for them. So far no amount of time has brought them close to their original MSRP (which was inflated to begin with).

Regarding the amount of Speedmasters made I don鈥檛 think that matters. Look at the Rolex crowd that treats a BLNR like a limited edition even though they made like 100,000+ of them per year for like ten years. I think a good condition 3599.50 was like $1000 seven years ago. The quantity didn鈥檛 change but the demand did. I realize that鈥檚 a tritium model but so long as there is a demand (real or perceived) the prices will increase

Just wondering if the 1861 Moonwatch will rise in value on the second hand market now that it's been discontinued ? With the new model 25% more expensive I've been hearing that the hesalite version is now very hard to find at Omega AD's and people are buying them up fast. What do you think ?

I'd like to request from the mods a two week timeout for any member that asks about 1861 Speedmaster values going up due to the introduction of the 3861 model. Thank you

I don鈥檛 know what the original cost was for those versions but I鈥檓 guessing that the current market price is still higher than the original MSRP. If that鈥檚 true then the value did go up but that still doesn鈥檛 make them great investments.
My point is compared to the watches that came directly before or after. I just don鈥檛 see Luminova 1861鈥檚 going up in price at a higher rate then any other watch.

but yes.

I agree with that.

If the OP wants to know if the value will go up, the answer is yes. It might take a few or a lot of years but it will increase more than the original MSRP. However, I still don't see these as any type of SS Rolex, Nautilus, Royal Oak value increases.

Rolex's are no longer going up... they are barely above MSRP at this point for most SS sports watches (daytona excepted), Rolex has been playing this stupid game for so long that it has lowered demand.

That's not what I've seen based on the trusted sellers at RF or the folks selling there. But heck, what do I know, lol.

All of the SS models on RF, even the Air King or Millgauss sell for >$2K above MSRP. The 2020 Subs are about double MSRP. Same for the GMT batman/batgirl. Not sure if that means they really sell for that. The story goes that the ADs sell directly to the grey seller and net something above MSRP. -Makes for a good story. Not sure if that's real or not. Hence lack of stock in most AD shelves. Where are you seeing SS models readily available? -Others may want to grab those.

The flip side of the OP's question is: will the 1861 get cheaper and should I wait to buy one? Yes to that.

With many people asking this question there are likely many of them speculating on the price going up and buying them, which might be part of the shortage. When the new watch comes out, if the price of the 1861 goes up, then that lowers the difference in cost between the 3861 and 1861. Ask yourself which watch would you rather have for a close price?

Also, when all the speculators try to sell the 1861 at a jacked up cost, some of them will lower the cost to beat out their competitors.

The people who will buy these 1861s will also be other speculators, which might create a false demand for a short while. But at some point when the speculators are all trying to dump their watches the price will collapse and go to it's real value, which is based on actual numbers produced versus the added value of the new watch.

Are you a speculator or a collector? If a collector then wait is my guess.

Exactly the same reason as why most crave the snoopy versions at the moment - and it鈥檚 not through their love of beagles...

asking vs actual sales price. Millgauss and previous sub are at just above MSRP.

the New sub has a hike like anything new but will flatten in a year or so.

According to my lookup previous subs are 40% above MSRP (cheapest you can find).

I don't see the new ones coming down in price in a year or two years. They are only going up. Again, this is just my opinion.

I know asking price is often different than achieved price but chew on this now that the discussions about the 1861 are out....(FYI the box and warranty paper they refer to are the dealers own. This doesn鈥檛 include the original Omega warranty or box).

I had the outgoing (1861) Speedy on my list for two years, glad to have gotten one at a good price from my OB. At the time I received the watch, they also had the 3861, which may be something I take another two years to purchase (laughs).

Just glad to have gotten a new one with kit. Not looking to flip it or speculate on value. Just looking to add it to my tiny collection and enjoy it.

.. I read somewhere that the (not sure which exact model) Moon watch was manufactured at a rate of 500/day.. Can anyone confirm or deny this figure? There are a lot of Speedmaster moonwatches out there!

Unlikely. Based on comments made in an interview by the former CEO a few years ago, Omega makes around 2,000 watches per day, so it's unlikely that a 1/4 of those are Speedmasters.

What @Archer mentions above.

I also recall that Omega is the one brand that sells a lot more ladies watches than men鈥檚 watches compared to many other brands.
