*flame suit on* 😗

Just kidding.

As some of you know, I've been on the hunt for my first Omega. I know that the 3510.50 Speedy Reduced isn't well loved by everyone, but I must say, as my first Omega watch, I'm in love.

I've been doing about close to three months of research before purchasing my first Omega, and the Speedy Reduced was initially first on my list. Then it went to the Speedy Date (and all the variations included with the Date models), and of course, the Moonwatch.

With it being my first Omega, I wanted to be sure I got something that I knew I would like like, despite the negativity surrounding the watch. Just last week, I had the opportunity to visit a local OB here in Los Angeles and tried on the Moonwatch - don't get me wrong, it's an absolutely beautiful and stunning watch, and I completely respect that it is the better watch in almost all aspects - movement, quality, etc. - I would still like to own one down the road!

However, there's something about the Reduced (and it being "different") that just attracted me towards it moreso than the former. Plus, I'm just an automatic type-of-guy 😉

I purchased my Speedy Reduced from eLady in Japan who was running some good coupon deals at the time, and I found one in very good shape that included box/papers/warranty card. Not too many knicks and scratches, but for a 24-year old watch, one must expect some. I took a bit of polywatch to the hesalite and it worked wonders!

The bracelet, while comfortable, leaves a bit to be desired. I get scared that the pressure-clasp can come undone with enough accidental force, so I decided to put it in a nice racing-leather strap (plus, I personally find leather straps to be much more comfortable). Of course, it is an older model bracelet, so it's to be expected.

All-in-all, I am completely in love with the watch (that's what counts, right?) and the 39mm size on my 6.75'' wrist. And that patina on those tritium markers...just lovely!
Very pleased to add my first Omega to my watch box, and definitely will not be my last.

So, can I stay? 🍿

The lume really got a nice patina. Great pictures btw.👍 Sadly since it's a reduced I have to grab my fork and search for this sorcery.

I find these watches charming and if I didn’t have a Pro, I would have one (try to avoid redundancy in my collection).
Congrats and enjoy!

I bought this one to give to my nephew when he graduates from college next year. I'm tempted to wear it a little in the meantime. 😁

awesome watch. i hemmed and hawwed getting one but i did not want to pay the crazy service cost

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Omega charge the same service cost for all their chronographs? I always questioned this when people would say the service cost "is high." Compared to other models, wouldn't this fetch the same $ if one were to send in any watch to Omega? Just curious!

i'n not an omega expert, but i thought the service was $750 for this..+ shipping to/from

i think the original speedy costs more.

Perhaps after wearing it for a few months you will realize your nephew will be far more comfortable with a Seiko 5

My reduced has been shown here dozens of times. I’m that proud of it! The reduced has its place in the evolution of Omega. I drive an orphan car, I own an orphan Omega Speedmaster reduced. Dare to be different! I don’t get the impression that Speedmaster owners are petitioning to have we reduced owners blackballed.

I’m glad you got it because you like it - isn’t that what this is all about? Wear it well, it’s a handsome watch!

And, honestly, why do we timidly present a Speedy Reduced to the wide world? I did the same thing - worried that it would be ill perceived and looked down upon. But like you, I actually really like it. It’s a well-designed, well-proportioned watch.

I’m thoroughly enjoying mine. It’s a passion project of mine, saved from the deep depths of some previous owners hardwearing lack of concern for it - filled with rust, oil, wear & tear. Finally wrapped up my restoration with the arrival of a new chrono sweep hand from Japan. Now it’s enjoying some serious wrist time:

Cheers to the Reduced!
