why was the ebay/value thread locked without explanation?

“Recommended good value” is probably the wrong wording for the Title of the thread.

If it’s not the responsibility of anyone to actually verify it is a good deal.
I think the idea of “deal” is in the eye of the beholder. There is a current thread on how an auction estimate of $45k for a Speedmaster is just ridiculously low- that’s insane to me -not my kind of “deal”- that’s a new car, and I don’t find the watch attractive at any price.
The thread in question was mostly fun stuff, cheap 60’s divers, old Tissot or Benrus, a few landeron based chrono’s, and some real bizzaro stuff that was worth a chuckle.
Nothing of real interest to top end collectors but cheap thrills for bargain hunters who just want something different. Plus, during a time when most of us are still stuck at home, it’s fun to have some mindless eBay surfing thrown around saying “hey- see this one guys”!
I much enhoyed that thread and found it far more relevant to our community as opposed to others like how do you like your steak or what color was your stool this morning (no offense- stool is relative to us all- gut health is no laughing matter).
Again, no clue of the reasons for it’s closure- I know the mods here don’t intervene unless they get blow-back from somewhere/someone. Perhaps it wasn’t the OP that shit the bed.

The obvious danger of all the "recommended eBay" threads is that someone might shill their own listing, which is not permitted outside of the private sales forum. I don't know if that was happening or not. It did happen in the eBay thread in the Longines sub-forum recently, and some posts were removed.

I understand it's a private website and people can do whatever they want with it. However, I have the feeling that for a lot of members OF is more then just a private website. They feel OF has different standards then other watch fora, more transparant, more open for other ideas, yes OF has his own culture. And a lot of members have the feeling they are part of a community. In a (sociological) way I would understand if members would feel that OF is from the members. And when you remove content there should be explanation or accountability. Almost just like the real world... At the end, OF is not North Korea where things just disappear... 😁

But I also understand the point of view: it's not your website, so shut the f$% up.

Well the top of page 8 the OP quotes

“this hosam is an interesting piece

220 eu bin or best offer“

Then a few posts later the OP quotes

“seller sent me an offer for 140 eu......shipping to usa is 35 and i live it a high tax state, so it's around 2 bills for me to buy through the bay.

i still passed”

So how was it a good deal at €220 and recommended, if the person who posted it didn’t buy it at €180
😕😕

At the end, OF is not [that place geographically north of South Korea] where things just disappear... 😁
odd that you should mention the [ that place geographically north of South Korea ]
Back when it looked as though [ that place geographically north of South Korea ] might have a new leader, I made a thread speculating on what model/s of watch the possible new leader was wearing, from various pictures I found in the net. None of the pictures was great, and whatever she wore we couldn't figure it out. Thread deleted without warning. The next day someone else posted a new thread asking what happened, and whether it was OK to talk about [ that place geographically north of South Korea ] here, and that thread was deleted too.

So, I'm guessing I shouldn't. Be writing this post. Right now. 🤔

I was just going to say - please do not mention that place geographically north of South Korea. Last time I did that my thread was deleted.

I get your point, the OP did give a bit of colored commentary and is prone to tangential streams of consciousness, but the rest of us were enjoying it and just posting fun stuff with opinions on oddity or hidden gem movements, etc. I think it was fun, it was educational and many here enjoyed it.

I think the question why the mere mention of that place above S Korea warrants deletion is actually more interesting still. Does it invite DDOS attacks by sinister foreign hackers if you do so I wonder.

The thread was fun and interesting, I've been in contact with 2 sellers listed there and agreed on pricing on one of the pieces but what ended up killing the deals was possible import tax outside of the EU for me... Might be the reason he dropped the scores here as when including the postage and customs a good deal stops being good when the Customs get involved.
I'd hardly think the thread was malicious or damaging to other members and was quite fun to follow. The last posted watch in the thread was mine i'm 90% sure of it and it is selling for 30% less than what i got for it 2 years ago... No way he'd be shilling from 3 corners of the earth.

sorry,....i'm not here to give tutorials on how to build, grow and maintain websites. it's obv that most of you don't have the first inkling on it.

also,...the people that extrapolate a few things i said and to ignore the main premise of what is said is also a big joke

i thank everyone that have gotten behind me, there aren't many of you. and it's obv there is nothing that you can do about it.

you can see the mob hate and discord others bring into this thread. it's nothing more than personal reasons, grudge or them thinking it's funny at my expense......these peeps didn't even know this thread existed, now they're giving each other wrap around likes to something of no concern to them....

congrat's....you win....the thread locked,..pio lost..you can go out an riot now..only i'm really not the one that lost here

Mob hate and discord sewn here? Rioting?

Project much? Does that chip on your shoulder ever become a nuisance for you?

55 of 163 posts, or about 34% of total were made by the original poster so it must have been a pet thread.

I may not recognize good value on a vintage watch if I dropped it on my big toe, but I have no need to be nannied by a Forum thread about what is, or is not a good value for a watch. The thread cheapened the tone of Omega Forums by acting as a yet another clearinghouse for Ebay and other vintage watch marketing sites, detracting from the Forum's own watch sales sub forums by competing with the efforts of Forum members selling there.

It's a petulant display of immaturity on the part of the original poster to publicly upbraid moderators or to exhibit outrage toward other Forum members who disagree with him.

I feel like that guy way back in the traffic jam, who just gets to rubberneck the guys sweeping off the road. Clearly the mods saw a trend or a trigger here. I’ve come to respect their judgement.

Lame grade school penile and horse jokes. Didn't expect a lynching party to start. But seems to be all the rage nowadays.

Given that you don't seem to have mastered capitalisation or punctuation yet, I don't think anyone is going to ask you how to build, grow, or maintain a website.

For the record, I was not lynching (don't know the OP from a bar of soap) or making jokes. Merely being honest (VRY VRY HNST) 👍
