My introductory thread was deleted without explanation

Hello. Long story short. Upon being advised that my first post ever, in the zenith forum, was unacceptable due to breaking rules about number of posts before ‘want to buy’, which is fair enough, And being advised that I ought to edit it and use it to introduce myself to the forum, which I did.

I subsequently put a lot of work into writing an intricate introductory post in the Zenith forum, and today I find that the whole thing is deleted along with the responses i received. Some of them were really brilliant responses. I don't think my text was contentious.

i also posted on a thread about omega watches on eBay worth buying and everything I posted there is also missing even though my contribution received very educational responses. One person on that thread did comment that the 1930’s Omega flieger pilot watch i had posted a picture of, had been redialed. I had no idea. Is that sufficient for my contribution to be deleted?

I’m baffled. And I have no idea which rule i might have broken in either case. If anyone could offer any information or guesses or similar experiences, i would really appreciate it.

Yes, I think a post recommending a redialed watch on that thread would be deleted. We generally try to post only watches that are recommended for a purchase. A watch with a refinished dial wouldn't generally be recommended. Maybe best to settle in a bit and get the lay of the land.

Also, if the mods think that you are post-farming, some posts might be deleted, but I don't know if that was the case, I didn't see your posts.

Hi Harry,

Sorry you have had a rough start here. There are some basic rules of the road which you may have not realized- it happens to all of us. One of which is that you need to have 200 meaningful (not just one word responses to other threads to boost post count) to be able to post a for sale or want to buy listing- it helps establish people as a member and not just a drive-by seller or a scammer.
Not sure about the Omega, but if it was a fake watch, then it would be subject to removal.
I didn’t see your original posts, but if you are looking for constructive feedback, as Aaron suggested you may want to reach out to @dsio for clarification- he’s very approachable.
Welcome to OF and I hope the ride gets smoother for you

From what I could see your first post was a WTB, then you wrote a much longer thread that still at the end was a WTB and one of the mod teams removed it because of that.

I think I remember your posts but not quite sure because they’re gone now. Sorry it ultimately got deemed a WTB and deleted even after you changed it. Not a big deal. We’re still happy to have you here.

That takes the biscuit Harry. Try posting the Omega again and asking for feedback on the watch - Then people can explain if they think it might be a redial. That does not mean it is fake / just not as attractive to some (most) collectors. Also be mindfull of the no sale 200 post rule which has been explained above. Hopefully you come back - otherwise you will look like another phantom poster who rides in to sell something or run a scam (it happens a lot sadly).

Thank you for all the replies here. Very helpful and also decent of you.

I ended the original post with a picture of a very rare 1920's Zenith alarm wristwatch, wrote a little on what little I knew about it, said I had seen one on chrono which was very expensive and missed another which was less so. I invited any information about the watch in question that members might have and concluded that I would like to ' own 1, 1 d*y '. I mean it was sort of written on the supposition that these things were rather unicorn like.

Fair play though. Rules is rules I guess.

Yes I'll repost the Omega flieger.

And yes i instead of I is irredeemable.

thank you

If I remember correctly, among your posts in the recommended Omegas on eBay thread were not just a Flieger that was identified as a redial, but also at least one other that was vastly overpriced.

The idea of the thread is that the posted offers are „vetted“ to a certain level and thus provide a big help for possibly less experienced collectors / people hunting for entry level pieces. It’s especially @dsio who puts in a lot of effort and if you scroll through his suggestions you’ll see that he also comments where necessary. „Might be a good buy if it stays below 500$“, „factor in a service“, etc. Bottom line is: People know an experienced watch-nerd had a look at it and approves.

If you post a link to a redial or an overpriced example without any clarification, that might lead others to make a bad buying decision. Nobody says those pieces can’t be discussed though! Just create a new thread. You find the Flieger interesting? Take some screenshots, explain what you know and like / dislike about it, and start a new topic. 😀

Also: Welcome aboard!

Why would anyone recommend a watch if he is not sure about originality?
