"X-33" is too short for the search bot of OF... I wanted to see if some of this nice speedy was for sale, but impossible... Do you know how to do?

You'll almost always have better luck using an external search engine and limiting the scope of the search to this site. In your specific case, searching on something like: "X-33" site: omegaforums.net
should do the trick.

Let's see how it matters to Omega... as March 1996 - March 2021 will mark " 25 years X-33 Speedmaster used in spaceflight missions "
or if they count from the official onboard Mir presentation in March 1998... that quarter-century anniversary will occur in March 2023...
But already 2022 will mark 50 years Apollo 17... as 2025 will mark 50 years ASTP
...
Edit: opportunities galore for LE

People really need to stop spreading the fallacy of 30m or 3bar of WR as inadequate for anything apart from light splashes of water. Any watch that truly has 30m of WR is fit for swimming as long as the crown and pushers can not be depressed freely (i.e. screw down or locking mechanism) or they are designed to do so while submerged (most aren't).

All Flik Flak watches are rated for 30m and they actively advertise that it's safe to put them in a washing machine. I've placed my son's old Flik Flak in the washing machine on a standard 1600rpm cycle on several occasions and not once did it leak.

The main danger with the X-33 and water is due to both the crown and pushers being free to depress. However, as stated before this is a common problem with many watches, even those with much higher WR ratings. When the seals fail, regardless of the WR rating then water can enter the watch.

Back when my X-33 was my daily wearer for 8 years it was submerged in multiple pools and seawater. Yes, there was a danger of the pushers or crown being depressed and on a few occasions it did happen. I could tell since the mode changed from the usual date to something else. I regularly wash it in the sink after a BBQ or sports to get rid of the oil and sweat.

However, in the 15 years of ownership it has never had water ingress and it's only been serviced by Omega twice in that time. I'm not encouraging everyone to treat their X-33's the same but they certainly aren't as "fragile" as some make out, even around water.

Well shoot. This isn't what I wanted to hear. Now I'm gonna have to own one.

My job is done then 😉.

In all seriousness though, I never plan to sell my X-33 for many reasons. It's still my go to summer, BBQ, sport and travel watch (leather, sweat, bad). It's a near perfect general purpose tool watch and with its unassuming looks it's also very safe to travel with. To top it off it also takes a decent beating when you get too drunk and fall into it (tried and tested - unplanned).

Just posting this in case anyone following the thread was looking for an X-33. This Gen 1 just popped up in window-shopping my tagged-shop bookmarks. Seems to have been seriously price-corrected. Perhaps not enough.

No affiliation, of course. I've got my own Gen 2 that I will go back to wearing when I start flying for business again. Perfect watch for those sub-orbital flights.

Very happy to join the x33 club... Very very happy to present my gen1 😁, I finally found in France.
And I really love touching the special material of this box...😲
Does anybody knows if this material has a link with space suits?...

I have been looking at buying one of these but 1st generation one. I have never worn a quartz watch but something about these that I could live with the movement. Ive heard they have the loudest alarm on a watch. I think you can get a good 1st generation one for less than £1500 which is a good price.

I was thinking the same... "never a quartz"...! but space history finished to convince me, and the x33 became necessary to my collection...
I confirm, after having repaired the alarm (with aluminium paper, because the golden spring contact was broken...), the sound is really loud...!

Yes in the sense the white nylon fabric on the box is meant to give it the look and feel of the Beta Cloth fabric used to to make the Apollo space suits as will as many of the storage bags carried by the astronauts. Beta Cloth also covered the majority of the shuttle cargo bay interior. Primarily it's only available to the US government but it can be sourced with a little work running about a $1000 a square yard.

Nice read. I learned something new, which is always nice:

Reading this article I discovered that my X33 Skywalker is one of the first 100 produced - suddenly it is an even more special watch 😀. And I see that I'm not alone as it is also the case of "duc" post - only 98 more to find !

Makes a great GMT/Travel watch

Sorry for the late question but I'm just reviewing this thread and your ensemble caught my eye. The clasp looks unbranded. Is it an Omega Titanium or something else? Thanks!

22/2/22 just passed as 22 FEB 1996 was the first test-in-space for the Omega X-33 Speedmaster prototype.
Omega choose a Swiss astronaut, Claude Nicollier to test the watch during the 15 days long STS-75 mission onboard space shuttle Columbia
On March 25, 1998 the X-33 Speedmaster "Mars watch" was officially presented to the world during a LIVE Press meeting onboard the Russian space station "Mir" as these generation one X-33 were taken up to the space station during space shuttle Endeavour mission STS-89 in February 1998 !
