Why the jump in vintage watch prices

I am not sure there is one answer. For sure money printing and low interest rates have pushed a lot of assets up as people move out of cash. This is being helped by a growing aspirational middle class in emerging markets now linked by internet sales. People want nice quality ‘stuff’ and good watch is still most men’s main fashion statement. I think a lot of people have turned off smart watches since the phone or pad never leaves their hand anyway and it is hard to form a deep connection with a wrist beeper. I am meeting younger people who have a genuine interest in horology and truly value the history and quality of mechanical movements. Older tech like records and cassette tapes have also made a comeback, and that has been driven by millennials not men of a certain age (like me!). For sure nostalgia plays a part ands there will be (are?) price bubbles, but I think it is up to places like this forum to keep welcoming people in and for all of us to spread the word. I hope the next generation does take up the baton and keep all these lovely pieces ticking. Re nostalgia I do agree that I will have to sell my action man / GI Joe etc collections before all the buyers peg it…..

Can you give me more information on this GI Joe? My Micheal Schumacher doll needs company.

Thanks!

A doll….Ken is most offended…back then toys were real toys, men were real men, women were real women, and small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri were real small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri. How it has changed ….I decided to let my 5 year old Nephew spend an hour playing scuba diver with this 'aqua lung' rather than try explaining what a flamethrower was……..

And the the letter opener? hahha

I would for sure give social media a thank you when it comes to popularizing vintage watches. Especially places like Hodinkee & Theo and Harris
