Why such little interest in Breguet?

Value for money compared to some brands out there but just can't seem to find the occasion for a dress watch anymore, not even for work purposes.

Here's my Classique with the traditional breguet elements but wish they had Breguet numerals on this one. 🙁

All people know Rolex, most know Omega, from there it goes in all directions, if your a rap fan you might know AP but think the brand name is Royal Oak, If you own 1 Rolex you might be aware of Patek Phillepe but couldn't name one model number or even collection like Calatrava. Louis- Abraham Breguet invented the tourbillon in 1795 but didn't get a patent until 1801 and it became the most celebrated of all complications of all time. Tourbillons are of no real use today so "high end" or haute horology watch brands still place them in carousels or in in horrid watches like Richard Mille and charge a ton to do so while Breguet is owned by the Swatch group and isn't even a footnote. It's sad, but people don't care about a watches past they care about it's future which is why Rolex SS models are selling at twice the price while you can get any Breguet at a reputable AD and talk them down significantly on price because they don't move. Your watch is beautiful, those hands are even named after Breguet himself, I agree they should be in the Holy Trinity and take Vacherons place, nice watches but don't have the pedigree. wmtEKWq.jpg

I have a 7147 and my wife wears a 5907. I love the brand, but I never see much discussion about Breguet on any forum. It must be the most unloved high end brand. I wonder why?

Hi end watches for most people that can afford them is all about "popular" status . For them there is no point spending big $'s if nobody realises the vast value on their wrist.
The Rolex marketing machine plus good quality has steam rollered every other brand. The average man on the street only recognises Rolex due to the successful promotion of the brand. He may not be able too afford one but that is the watch he aspires too.
Brand awareness for Rolex is immense.
Breguet falls into the section of the market where horological knowlege is appreciated and the pure beauty of something mechanical harking back to a more genteel era. For these people taste is everything rather than the brashness of modern Rolex.

I love Bréguet. I entered a shop in Place Vendôme when I was a teenager, feeling a little out of place because I was attracted to the beauty of the watches in the window. One of the old salesmen over there treated me with great respect as I was a very important customer, taking the time to explain to me their collection, answering my questions and educating me on these pieces of art, even letting me wear them. When I asked him why he did this, as I definitely did not have the budget to purchase one of these beautiful watches. He told me, « these are art for the passionate, and passion is not a question of budget. These are cultural assets of mankind ». I guess this sums it all. He added, « I wish you to be able to afford one one day ». That I did, and I still remember this wise man every time I wear my watch and cherish the accomplissement it embeds as much as the beauty of the craft.
Mine is a Réveil du Tsar. While not as hype as some other Patek or Audemars, I do not find it less beautiful.

Breguet has never been on my radar up until today. I was at a local shop and they had a Type 20 there that I immediately fell in love with. I think I have found my next watch 😀

I went back to the AD today and bought the XX. I couldn't be happier with the purchase. The fit and finish is beautiful and it is very comfortable on the wrist. Time start replenishing the watch fund 😀

I have had a few breguet including a 7057, a 5817, 5827,a 5867 and type xx. I presently have a xxi and a bteguet 5837 tourbillon. As someone who has owned almost every brand out there, including patek, I find the reliability and quality up there with my lange, journe and probably more than my ap. I think that journe and lange may have nicer finishing, but they have nicer finishing than many watches including patek.
Also, I have heard many service horror stories about patek too. Breguet is a great watch!

They make some fine watches but the faux heritage of the current resurrected brand bugs me.

So, for me, only vintage, only military, only one.

So far.😉

Breguet was owned by the Brown family of England when that piece was made, if you're so against faux heritage then you need to be looking at the pre-1870 pocket watches. Goood luck in your search for bona fide heritage.

Hey doc, welcome to OF.
We need pics of that tourbillon buddy.
You can’t drop a line like that and walk away...

my humble 7057 says hello

But even if you buy a Breguet when Breguet was alive he most likely never touched it or set eyes on it, he had a manufacturing operation going and wasn't overseeing all the production. Standards were set and they were maintained by the managers and foremen.

breguet is only for the privileged few. i for one am still on the look out for a lucky hit with an affordable tag. though, speaking of type20 (breguet 23, val22 and modified/upgrade), my bovet military "type 20" non-flyback will suffice for now.😁😉

~100 years of ownership qualifies as heritage for me, ending with the mess of the quartz crisis in the 70's. You are of course welcome to your own definition.

Now - let's see some of those pocket watches you're going on about! 👍
