I love Bréguet. I entered a shop in Place Vendôme when I was a teenager, feeling a little out of place because I was attracted to the beauty of the watches in the window. One of the old salesmen over there treated me with great respect as I was a very important customer, taking the time to explain to me their collection, answering my questions and educating me on these pieces of art, even letting me wear them. When I asked him why he did this, as I definitely did not have the budget to purchase one of these beautiful watches. He told me, « these are art for the passionate, and passion is not a question of budget. These are cultural assets of mankind ». I guess this sums it all. He added, « I wish you to be able to afford one one day ». That I did, and I still remember this wise man every time I wear my watch and cherish the accomplissement it embeds as much as the beauty of the craft.
Mine is a Réveil du Tsar. While not as hype as some other Patek or Audemars, I do not find it less beautiful.
This sums up everything we should appreciate in watches.
Le réveil du tsar is one of their most beautiful watch.

I admire Breguet, but to my eye they are a little fussy. Quaint if you will.

I am now the proud owner of 2 Breguet's. Below is my latest acquisition, I nearly bought this model from a forum member but walked away. Picked this up as a snipe on ebay, nearly new, and with their authenticity guarantee service it seemed a no brainer....
High end watch brand: tick
Steel sports watch equally at home on the beach or the boardroom: tick
Model with heritage: tick
Sensible price: tick
Not a Rolex/not seen widely: tick

With its more serious sibling... 😀

Breguet

Automatischer Aufzug. Armbanduhr. Tourbillon, Minutenrepetition, ewiger Kalender, Zeitgleichung, Stosssicherung, Breguet Spirale und Zeiger und einiges mehr!
Meine Herz schlägt für Breuget

Breguet has several models that are "popular". I have owned the Type XX, Type XXI and several different colors and metals of the Breguet Marine. This is my favorite:

Type XX are my favorite. I love the dressy watches too. Just wish swatch would step it up with the brand. Lacking love.

I like the Type XX, but have no idea what price I should be paying for one. Where is Breguet in the "watch hierarchy"?

I have a 7147 and my wife wears a 5907. I love the brand, but I never see much discussion about Breguet on any forum. It must be the most unloved high end brand. I wonder why?
That is a thing of beauty

Let's keep the interest down, without the involvement of the social media as the hype would put the prices up.

I have very complex feelings when it comes to Bréguet, as the brand operating today.

First of all, many of their watches leave me completely cold. I have developed a mild aversion for Roman numerals, and those are featured on a great deal of the classic Bréguet watches. So among the only ones I find interesting are the military inspired ones such as the Type XX chronographs and their derivatives.

But the thing that irritates me is the fact that the manufacture was almost resurrected out of thin air at the cost of another one. With the successive changes of ownership in the 1970s and the 1980s and the move of production to Switzerland, the company became just a name, an empty shell. And it had to rely on the purchase of Lemania to acquire the horological know-how that it no longer possessed in-house. Worse, this ultimately meant the disappearance of a very worthy name, as Lemania's HQ in L'Orient became Manufacture Bréguet, erasing Lemania's name completely in the process. As an aficionado of the latter's watches, that stings!

That being said, until last year, Bréguet was still using Lemania-based movements for its Type XX, Type XXI and Type XXII chronographs, and in the case of the last 2 they were making use of the central minute hand for the chronograph, like on the original Lemania 1340 that served as a base for their movement. With the introduction of the new Calibre 728 for the revamped Type XX last year, that connection has been lost, but I was grateful that for a few years Bréguet did keep a bit of the Lemania legacy alive.

Maybe I just need to get myself a nice pre-owned Type XXI...
