For one thing the back and case rim were substantially corroded in the past. They have polished over, but are still visible. This could lead to a poor seal and future damage.

Bracelet is an after market rivetted style.
Rotor's been rubbing at some point.
Non-pie-pan dial, refinished.
Lugs are polished smooth, the dog-leg is gone.
Yes, the corrosion...

Is there a reason why the endlink is bent over so much, or is it a trick of the light?

Rotor's been rubbing at some point.

and yet, no sign of rotor rub in the case back 👎
a little snippet courtesy of Desmond may offer some explanation....

Actually there never were dog legs, this is not a dog leg case. Considering all else the lugs are not in too bad a condition.

not wishing to entirely hi-jack the thread but since we are looking for things that aren't quite right

can anyone say what's wrong with this watch, currently up for auction in Israel?

I see tritium, but no T on the dial.

too early for Ts - the reference 14381 finished pre ‘63 - which is a large clue if you study the rear shot carefully....

Bump with another clue
What is the glaring addition that means this can’t be a 14381 case back.
(I.E. glaring for a sad Constellation nerd)

The bricks? I’m surprised it fits.

bingo!
👍

Brickwork observatories didn’t arrive on steel/gold cap models until mid-60s.
Dogleg case backs are often seen on 14381/14393 references - so they must be the same size.
Of course an SS 14381 should have a gold medallion, so this one must have come off a gold cap dogleg as a SS dogleg would have a steel impressed medallion.
