You have good taste 👍
Thanks Dave, your Spaceview is a mighty fine looking one. I will need to add one to my collection one of these days.
Thx! It wasn’t running when I bought it, but it looked nearly unworn. From a photo, @Canuck diagnosed that the hacking mechanism was stuck, which is why it likely sat unworn (battery removed, thankfully) for many years. When setting the hands, the hacking can stick in these from time to time, requiring only a light tap on the crystal to re-engage the works. That, or batteries put in right side up (as these install upside down) can make folks believe the movement is hooped. My local watchmaker believed the movement was shot until Canuck sorted me out. The moral of the story is that you might find a nice one and these particulars might save you some cash and problems
@DaveK,
Your Accutron did NOT require a major repair. But the repair involved a LOT more than a “tap on the crystal”! Diagnosing the problem simply involved knowing which version of the Accutron 214 movement that is involved , and knowing the recurring weaknesses of the particular version involved. It appeared to me that a maladjustment of the hack mechanism happened, perhaps at the factory. And more importantly, how to correct for the maladjustment. I pretty well knew what your watch required as soon as you first showed the picture of the watch in your post. So I knew exactly where to look when you finally got the watch to me. I even went so far in my reply to you back then, to tell you what to tell your watchmaker what to do to solve the problem! Never happened!
