Hi guys
Managed to pick up another early DS PATENT Pending manual wind cal. 25-36. Different hands on this one.

Here’s the previous automatic (cal 25-45) I found with the swordfish hands.

Congrats mate! I saw your post on Instagram as well 😀

As you note, the hands are replacements, as is the crown. I love these early DS!

Recently DS-2 prices have been creeping up. Anyone else noticing this? I wonder why that is.
For example this very polished blue dial one sold for $280 at auction. Strong result for a common variant in poor condition.

I'm unsure. A very nice one with an original bracelet sold for £260 here in the UK last week. OK you have to add commission but its still well under what you would pay for a decent vintage Seamaster on an original bracelet. True you might not be able to get nice ones for sub £200 as easily anymore but they are very reasonable given the quality. Maybe the fact that a few vintage Certina have been sold by Hodinkee recently for over £1k has had an impact.

Like you, many OF associates consider DS-line undervalued compared to Seamasters. This consensus has existed for some time now. Thus I have been waiting to see if the prices for "DS-1" watches start going up. But nope, prices have remained relatively flat. Today a nice DS doesn't cost much more than it did two years ago. To me it is surprising to see DS-2 creeping up and DS remaining in the $150-250 range. I think DS-2 is aesthetically pretty out-there so it made sense to me that it was considerably cheaper than a DS. Now the prices seem to be approaching parity. Maybe funk is coming in vogue?
(Yes, there are rare DS variants that fetch 4 figures at auction while no such collectable variants of DS-2 exist)

Your right. A quick shifty of sold items on eBay shoe that there are plenty of examples of DS1 watches going for under £120. True some are rough but you can easily spend that on a rough omega donor movement.

OK, lads and lassies: you convinced me. I love Certinas.

I picked up this beautiful Blue Ribbon in the fall of 2020. Given my recent obsession with chronographs and an overall preference for >38mm watches, I came this close to selling it. I rarely wear it which I know - I know!! - is a travesty. I need space in my watch box since I just received a BB GMT (I see you rolling your eyes, Troels! 😜) and something has to go.

But no. It stays. This thread has convinced me to rethink my rash decision; besides, it looks terrific on my wife’s wrist and better it gets time out of the box on her wrist than languish waiting for me to embrace smaller pieces. The OF enabling forces win again. What’s next, I wonder? A DS, perhaps…..?

No sir, you need another watch box. Simple as that. Why make life so complicated? Actually, buy couple more boxes and dedicate one to Certinas. Just to make sure your collection has room to grow. And by the way, that Blue Ribbon is lovely! Lately I've been looking to add a second BR to my collection but haven't found anything with a reasonable price tag. Lots of variants too, which is nice.

I have a Bristol 190, it's a 34mm watch and my wife likes to wear it. Which is weird because a SM 600 with similar dimensions is "too masculine" for her liking 😵‍💫 So it seems the ladies like Certina - yet another reason to buy more watches!

Thanks for the BR comment, @Nupero. It is a really sharp piece, and I have a thing for linen dials. If memory serves I may have acted based on a @ConElPueblo post comparing SMDV’s (a popular gateway drug) and Certinas. I think it was great value for the condition of the watch. I’m frankly amazed at the DS prices you folks are discussing here; I’d have assume they’d be much higher for watches of this calibre.

Another watch box, you say? Just what I need: more encouragement! Mind you, the more pieces my wife gets to wear, the better the opportunity to augment my wee collection without repercussion. Win-win!

NOS ladies Grana/Certina DS that just showed up 😁.

The case edges are razor sharp and I'm in love with everything but the strap, lol. Thoughts on something better than black lizard? (13mm only please)

Low quality pic so hard to judge. DS-2 was made with a crazy amount of different dial variants. That could be an authentic dial.

Maybe you're right I'm not an expert...has anyone seen such a dial ?

Honestly i've seen a lot of DS2 that were "legot" and never have i seen that kind of dial...and I think it look really bad...
Check out the 9 and the 12...looks like they were put over the original minute lines
