The man with the golden Certina....I believe @ConElPueblo might have one. This beast with a solid gold bracelet sold for £1200 today!!

Wow, that WAS super cheap. Wish I'd known actually.

Back from the service 😀
The amplitude doubled before vs after.

Will look for more DS-2s

I really like that one -- somehow the markers fit the case better than the more typical long narrow ones - gives a more 70s vibe - along with the black hands. Do you know what year this one is? It's the original band I believe which would suggest late 60s....

Unfortunately I do not know the exact year - the watch didn't come with any sort of paperwork and the seller had no idea. Late 60s, early 70s sound about right from similar watches I've seen online

Can anyone explain why Certina never put seconds hands on their ladies "dive style" watches?

Lovely example, but not actually a dive watch since there's no second hand. 😒

I think they use a dress watch movement due to the size of the watch.

Makes sense, thank you. The listing says it's a cal 17-221, does that jive?

Still annoying as there is/was an ETA caliber, 2671(I think), that can be cased in as small as 26mm. I have several examples 😁

I can only see one number on the caseback - without aby spacing in-between the numbers, which makes me think it is the serial number.
If that is correct, according to the table I can find on the bottom of the page you kindly linked, it dates back to between 1968 and 1969.

I wonder where the reference number should be.
On the attached image (which isn't mine, just downloaded it to mark the part) I highlighted in green the part where that 7 digit no-spaces number is engraved.

That's where I go searching for those serial numbers too (of which I think @ConElPueblo wrote that they were written by ants or something - they're pretty small and hard to decipher at times). For some reason there was a post on WatchUSeek where the numbers and years differ quite a bit to vintagecertinas. The latter being, as far as I know, a Swiss source, I tend to trust it far more.

Marpro - I can't totally understand your note, it sounds like only one number is clear, but sounds like you've interpreted what you're seeing as 68/69 which is consistent with the band. Yeah, whatever little serial number stamper Certina used, it certainly was discreet. I would definitely use the vintagecertina site as I believe they have some sort of relationship with Certina - I'm sure their numbers are accurate --

Sorry, sounds indeed unclear when I reread it myself as well 😀

What I meant was that according to the vintage Certinas website, there should be two 7 digit long numbers on the caseback.
One is a reference number, the other a serial number.
On mine, I could only find and read one of these - what looked to be a serial number: 7341xx9
No sign of a second 7 digit long number, which would be the reference no. according to the website.

Not that it really matters, happy to have found out the year, thank you for that 😀

OK, that makes sense. My 1967 (I think?) DS2 only has the serial number on the back.

It varies a bit. The serial will always be on the outside, but the reference is on the inside on most. I don't know when Certina switched to stamping it two places.

Hi all!
Is there some kind of website dedicated to vintage certina? I’m interested in their first DS and DS2 diver watches but finding info is not easy…I especially like the first black dialed/coffin markers DS 😀
Thanks!
