Great watches, especially with their story that makes them personal for you.
I asked because I've lately seen couple of Certinas online, with a Polish day disk, which looked kinda similar to the one you shared here. 😀

From a short online research I did, it emerged that there was a store chain in Poland formed in the 70s during the communist time, where only Dollars where accepted. Among some other western products, it sold watches. Omega, Longines and... Certinas we're discussing here. (Funfact, even some Omegas had the translated day disk).

Yes, this state-run chain was called Tuzex in Czechoslovakia and most of the foreign goods were only available there for special bonds that you could purchase with foreign currency. But it was not that you could buy it exclusively there. I was happily born to late to bother with this, so I cannot describe it from experience. I recently showed a Zenith here, that was purchased in 1965 in such a store in Prague. But I also have an Omega that was purchased in a regular jewellery store in Prague in 1973, based on the receipt.

This is the receipt from Tuzex (195 Bons should be equal to about 1000 CZK at the time):

I picked up this DS some time ago and find it wears nicely. I was surprised by the overall thickness, including the crystal height.

They have quite a heft to them. I suppose that’s why they’re DS, and robust.

Hi guys

The frustration of just missing out on a watch by a few seconds. Sold, just as I was hitting the BIN button.

That dial looks completely shagged and there is no sign of lume anywhere. I think you dodged a bullet, to be honest.

Diameter
40.00mm

No. Just no.

Well, providing a single dimension for a barrel type case makes little sense, not sure why they did that on their website.
The original DS-2 was anyway 38.5 x 42, so maybe it's 40mm north to south with this new one?

To me personally, the more disturbing part is throwing at us the basic 23jewels (plastic escapement wheel and pallet fork) Powermatic80 for 900€. Will go with the vintage models any day.

This one’s no oil painting - probably not even a watercolour - but I have an attachment to it (and have spent far more than it’s worth on it too).

That is very cheap. The bracelet isn't original, so has the worth of gold melt, but even that would be quite a lot! It is a lovely watch, though I rarely wear mine, as it is almost exclusively worn by my better half.

The caseback weighs about three times as much as some of those gold presentation watches you see from the same era.

Yes, I could just imagine the heft of that watch. I would have loved to have bought it but couldn't stretch to it. I am sure I could have recouped a decent amount by selling the bracelet too.
