1960 DS. Amazed by the build quality. Thanks to all the enablers in this thread, it’s all your fault. Very taken with this, my only Certina (atm).

One of my favourite dial variants!

Hi there!

This website will allow you to decode the numbers on the caseback: http://www.vintagecertinas.ch/en/certina-case-movement-and-serial-numbers/

I will refrain from telling you the result, as deciphering stuff like this is part of the fun of the hobby 😀

Hello again😀

Thank you for the reply.

As far as I can tell it is:
*14 carat yellow gold.
*Certina 25-651(M) movement (is this the clockwork inside?)
*Model 100

But the serial number is not in the list, as far as I can tell.. The number on my watch is 250882, and the list on gold watches starts at 270000.
Does anyone here know why?
I would love to know when it is made.😀

I’m intrigued by the different types of Certina DS hands and wonder if someone can clarify.

These two recent posts of 60s watches all show very attractive dauphine hands.

My mid 60s turtle backed automatic has stick hands. I am assured by both the OF member (based in Italy) who sold it to me, and by my watch repairer that all the features are original (although I have swapped my hour and minute hands for nicer originals taken from a spare parts watch in Poland).

I look out for these watches and browse various sites including Chrono 24, which has a good selection, all of which are sold by European sellers; French, German, Dutch, Italian, Polish etc., and all of which (currently) seem to have stick hands.

So, two queries, if anyone is able to assist. Did Certina change the types of hand on the DS and, if so, when? And second, if the hands weren’t changed, were the watches designed to be sold in different markets, for example dauphine in Scandinavia and stick hands in Central Europe?

Thanks in advance,

Robert

My new Certina DS, probably made around 1967, mine since yesterday.
Only a matching strap has to be aquired.

Those old Certinas are so beautyful and well made. It´s hard to believe that they can be had for really small prices.

I love this 60th edition DS-1, although a little pricey for the name. I was also surprised by an only 2-year warranty

I just got this yesterday!! It’s very cool for the price.
She’s a beauty, congrats.
May I ask what country you’re in? Certina aren’t readily available in North America. I really like the new DS-1 with green dial.

I got mine from Jomashop. It took forever for them to get them (they get them 1/2 dozen at a time), but after 5 months it arrived.

I bought mine from Jomashop also. I ordered it last late thursday and it came on Tuesday. So it was pretty fast. They are instock right now so order it now!. I'm pleasantly surprised by Jomashop. The watch was brand new with all the stickers protecing the watch and bracelet. I paid $589 no tax.

Hi guys

Here’s my latest DS that arrived in the post today. A bit battered and bruised but with a bit of TLC it’ll be looking good again(although not as nice as the one I’ve seen from @neilfrancis ). It’s the 25-45 patent pending 5601 012 with a ref number that points towards 1960. A really nice model.

My jumbo, steel Certina dress watch with a cal. 321 movement on an unusually warm and sunny May day.

Second or third time wearing this one. It’s a big-boy, but with the warmer weather coming it may see some wrist time.

So, I know it won’t win any beauty contests, but I did buy it as a parts watch. The hands, crown, movement and case can all be reused for other watches. However I’m itching to see what they have covered up with the paint and would it be possible to remove, just for the fun of it. The watch was really cheap, so no big deal if the dial gets ruined anyway.
