I hope so!

Sorry - I know about the various DS versions, but technical stuff is outside my jurisdiction 😁

Better ask a watchmaker.

No problem!

I have asked my watchmaker and he isn’t sure also. He says he could try to make one but a picture would help a lot.

Sounds like you should start a new thread to ask this question.

Congrats on the DS 😀

A light brown strap would probably look great. Bear in mind that the lug width is a smidgen more than 18mm, so there will almost certainly be a tiny gap between strap and lugs.

Getting back onto this - have you ever trimmed a 20mm strap to fit? There’s a much better choice of 20mm straps than 19mm and you’re spot on with the gap when using an 18mm strap.

Just acquired this. Apart from the mismatched hands (about which I was told and will rectify) it runs well and looks as I think it should.

I’ve researched where I can and have assumed it’s a mid sixties watch but I’d appreciate any further information about date that an OF members might have.

It’s difficult to make out the serial number on the bottom of the caseback rear, but this should help in dating it https://forums.watchuseek.com/f295/certina-serial-number-system-982877.html#post7369910

Thanks Rob,
I appreciate your help. I went on that site and thought mine's a mid sixties but I’m never sure I’m reading the information correctly. The case number is 5801.112 and it’s a Cal 25-651 and the table suggests 1960-1977 although Ranfft suggests 1960-1975.

That’s a really good link but the listing for the 5801.112/25-651 suggests there is no date quickset, which my watch has and which Dr Ranfft refers to as a feature on his web page, as being an integral part of this movement between 1960-1975.

it’s not a big deal for me but I would have liked to solve the reference riddle 😀

The two numbers on the inside are the patent number and case reference number.

Here is your serial number:

First digit is blurry, but could be a “5”. If so then watch dates from around 1964, based on this table:

Hope this helps,

That´s from the Ranfft site:

Certina 25-651

Features
automatic
sweep second
date: set by changing 23-24h

So there´s no quickset. The 1st Certina automatic movement with quickset was the 919-1.

It helps immeasurably!

Silly me, I didn’t even think there might’ve be a serial number there, much less look for one!

Its 6767795, which puts it in 1966. Not birth year but certainly World Cup year.

Thank you all for your input. I don’t suppose any of you thought I was looking in the wrong place - or not looking at all.

Again, my naivety. Having owned old watches where I had to wind through 1-31, I thought 23-24 counted as ‘quickset'. Again, very many thanks.

Hi guys. Here’s my latest DS find, a nice early(‘59) model with a two tone dial and facetted hands. Possibly just needs a polish of the glass and I’ll see if I can find the correct crown for it. I think the dial will look stunning once it’s done up.
