I never had one of those. I did have a 328i 4-banger hard-top convertible and a whole slew of 4-cylinder Saabs before they went belly up (thank you GM).

Only 6-cylinder I ever had was a very rare 1992 Acura Legend Coupe with a 5-speed manual.

The Legend was peak Honda. One of the best cars ever made.

For summer fun I replaced this
with something less obnoxious...
Not expecting to see that McLaren.

Took Rocky the T-ROC R in for his first service today.
Got a 23 Golf Mk8 loaner.

It's got a funny gear stick. I didn't like it.

But I did like the updated steering wheel. VW have canned the capacitive/haptic/crappy switchgear and given us back PROPER BUTTONS!

Though they did sought of fill the gap to a degree with the Accord 3500NT from 2013 onward but I am a bit pissed off they deleted the Legend.
I have owned just about every model of Accord since 1984.

That was a very good car indeed, but there is something about the Legend coupe that is timeless.

Decent quality engineering and quality plastics and fabrics unlike other competing Japanese brands.

OK, I'll play. Apparently I'm an old man as I drive a Mercedes. My 2013 CLS Shooting Brake. Love this car. I love estates and this is a beautiful (in my eyes) mash up between a coupe and an estate. Rides pretty well (although the wheels are too big in my opinion) as it's got comfort rather than the terrible, crashy sports suspension. It's also pretty rare... hardly ever see another one. Although recently one of my neighbours bought one (the Mk II to my Mk I). Typical.

The only photo I had on my phone was this cropped one. So the second one is generic internet one (of a Mk II which is subtly different at the front and back. Worse in my opinion!)

I've got a chequered car history. Favourites - Alfa 156, Renault 19 16v, MGBGT, Fiesta XR2. Worse - Vauxhall Astra and Cavalier. The best car I've had - BMW E46 320d estate. Best handling car I've ever had. Brilliantly comfortable, versatile, spacious. Great chassis.

Would love a 2nd fun car but don't have the space or the funds.

I drive a MK7.5 GTi which has been a great car for me but not one I love.

Over the last 5 years i've been working on my E30 but moving house has seen that be put up for sale as well.

Currently tossing up between a new Defender 110 or a Macan for a more suitable family car

Oh man I love my GTI. I've had my 2015 MK7 since...well 2015! It will be 9 years in May. The longest I've owned a single car by more than double.
And I plan to hang on to it for another couple of years. Before it, I had a MK6! And guess what? There is a good chance I'll pick up an 8.5 when they are released!
But like you, I have kids to think about and as they get older I wouldn't mind having something with a bit more space.
So I do have sedans on the mind. Or if the stars align, a fun wagon of sorts.
Right now the primary kid-hauler is the Bronco. It does the job pretty well. And then there is the ongoing project. a '73 T3 Squareback.
I had an E30 for less than a month as a project almost 20 years ago. Picked it up from a guy for a few hundred bucks and then was offered more than that by someone else so I just went ahead and sold it since I already had another project at the time - a MK2 Jetta with a VR6 swap.
If you haven't noticed, I'm a bit of a VW fan. Before the Bronco we had an Atlas, and before that a Tiguan, and another Tiguan, and a Bug...

What a great range of vehicles, love it!
We got a Tiguan for our daughter and she loves it. I test drove several options with her, including a Rav4, CRV, Escape, Bronco Sport (wife is and Eng at Ford) and we both loved the Tiguan more than any of the others. I actually enjoyed driving it so much it convinced me to seriously consider VW Groups more sport/lux mini-SUV's like the SQ5 and finally settled on the Macan GTS. I'd love to get my wife the SQ5 which would give us the full range of Tiguan/SQ5/Macan, but she'll go with a Ford employee lease option.

How does the full-size Bronco drive in the city? We found the Bronco Sport with a very floaty/truck feeling and so decided against it (even though wife and daughter love the styling). I assume the full size Bronco is no more sporty to drive, being even larger and more off-road worthy...? It looks great though, love they're bringing back some of the great retro bodies (new Electric Scout is being rumored, would be cool if it resembles the original...)

I really liked our VW SUV's. They are a great bang for your buck. When we first got the Atlas, we had a Q7 rental for a week or so.
Sure, it was a bit more polished, but at the time, it was also almost double what we paid for the Atlas and had all of the same features.
Anyway the only reason we got rid of the Atlas was because of the Bronco. We both wanted a Bronco and we sort of lucked into one a little over a year ago.
I love the thing. But it definitely drives like a truck in some regard. I rented a Yukon XL while out of town and when I got back and in the Bronco I remember thinking how stiff it felt in comparison. And of course, loud lol. Those knobby tires produce a bit of noise and vibration compared to a regular street tire.
But we knew what we signed up for and we don't mind it a bit. In fact, I was so happy to be back in the Bronco and I couldn't help thinking how much I wished to have been able to have it while in Montana.
Ours has the 2.7 and our overall lifetime is right around 17.5 MPG and that is mainly city driving on flat Florida roads.
And that is about what we average per tank (anywhere between 16 and 19 MPG is what we see depending on what sort of driving we did).
If you keep it below 70 on the highway, it will linger around 20 MPG, but once you get over 75 mph (and into boost) it will drop.
It is my wife's "daily" and she of course loves being one of the larger vehicles on the road. It's plenty quick merging into traffic and does fine around corners...not like the GTI of course, but just as fine as the Atlas did.
Funny you mention Scout. VW acquired the rights and will fall under the VAG umbrella. I'm really interested in seeing what comes of that.
It could very well be a serious replacement for the Bronco...but I don't think I'd ever actually get rid of the Bronco entirely.
Besides, my 5 year old daughter has already claimed it as hers lol.

Enjoyed this Lotus for many years, here on a tour of Switzerland. Lately have considered purchasing another but sadly nothing worth the effort so far 🙁

The GTI is an AMAZING car, it is a bit 'playstation' for me, in that it does everything really well. Previously I had a 1 series and before that I had a Scirocco R - Scirocco was my absolute favourite car I have owned, it was loud, impractical, torque steered like crazy and i loved the viper green colour. The White GTi I have now is, in every way, better but it just doesn't have the X factor for me unfortunately. Saying that, I have had it for 4 years and honestly, for the price I paid I don't know what else you would buy!

This is my daily... stock photo from the website but configured as I ordered it. '23 Macan GTS -- first Porsche for me, lots of fun to drive!

This was the day I picked it up from having paint correction, PPF and ceramic applied.
Gorgeous car, with amazing config. I have a '21 in Miami Blue, puts a smile on my face every time I look at it.

Thank you! Miami Blue... nice choice! If it had been entirely up to me, I would have chosen a more 'fun' color, but my wife strongly prefers gray...

My previous daily was a Trackhawk (707bhp from factory, which I had tuned to 1000+bhp... until a rod went kablooey) and it was a blast. My wife hated it "cuz racecar...", and she loves the refined Macan. I recently found myself at a red traffic light on an empty 4 lane Telegraph (in Michigan) but for a Trackhawk that lined up beside me. When the light turned green, we had some fun (no traffic, no dangerous moves) and I was surprised that the Macan GTS held it's own and only lost at 2/3 lights. We exchanged silly childish grins and simultaneoulsy complimented each other's rides. I left smugly satisfied that the 0-60 performance I lost from the Hawk wasn't as bad as I'd feared. Road handling is of course far superior, and the interior fit and finish isn't even a contest. All in all, I haven't regretted the Macan for a minute!

That TrackHawk though. Ooof.
I told my wife I wanted to get a wide body Charger Hellcat. She said "no" lol.
