Aw, nuts.

OMG, now all I can think about is, "Did somebody rescue this poor animal?"

To the OP, the problem is that you really can't be sure the Speedy you get is from 1975, because the inside of the case-back will say 145.022-74 or 145.022-76, and the serial number can be anything from 31 million to 38 million because of the parts-bin mentality of Omega.

Have you already considered the Speedy 9300? A real Speedy with all advantages of a modern watch (automatic, date), I love mine....

Hi All,

4. Automatic (not sure on model number - are all reduced 39mm? )

No - there are a lot in the 42mm case size. If you expand your selection to the automatic movements you choices greatly expand. Some of the Broad Arrow Speedmasters are pretty cool. I have a Schumacher edition with a 42mm case Speedmaster that I love. Heck, I like pictures so here is mine. Modified with Broad Arrow hands.

Do you live near an Omega Boutique or dealer? Make sure that you try them on and take photos on your wrist. In the end your opinion matters most. Unless you are a collector and just want to store the watch, I'd say go for something that you'd actually wear and looks good on you.

That is the best bit of advice I've seen 👍

This. Especially since they can now be had relatively inexpensively. I adore my Speedy 9300. It is just a beautiful blend of the classic and the modern. Plus, it has something in common with the watches that actually went to the moon that the 861s, 1861s etc don't: it's a column-wheel chronograph. Such an awesome movement 😀

Vintage speedmaster like the 145.022 is hard to beat. Just need to be little patience for a solid piece. A good vintage piece with great condition will always get harder and harder to find.

The moonwatch is never a bad choice.

Here's another one just in case you're open to other models.

From your shortlist, make your way into an Omega Boutique, and let the watch pick you. If you like certain features of each of the models you suggested, the next step is to try them on. Some watches will instantly look great on your wrist whilst others just won't feel right. Good luck, let us know what you choose!

Go the classic, you won't regret it. And remember, the auto is smaller and less collectable in the long run, so value won't hold as well.
