Maybe this is a question of material. Maybe it’s a question of case size. Given the option of the 300MC steel case, 300MC titanium case, or the 1957 re edition which would you choose and why?

Full disclosure, I’ve only handled the 300MC steel, but it is what I chose when deciding between the 1957 reissue and the standard issue 300MC (I have no interest in titanium).

My biggest concern was lug to lug size, and from my research there’s minimal difference between the two. The overall thickness of the 300MC took a little getting used to, but I enjoy the chunkiness and it’s certainly a nice change of feel from my other watches.

Other main benefits of the MC vs. 1957 reissue in my view are the sapphire caseback, color/texture of the dial on the 300MC and the adjustable clasp.

Overall, my choice came down to price, but after owning the MC for about 6 months, I don’t feel that I’ve compromised in any way.

Check out this recent thread below, some really good feedback from owners of both steel models.

Thank you for this info. I didn’t know about the rotor noise in the 8806. Wonder if it’s the same in the 8800 date version.

It's the same in (I guess) all newer movements. It has to do with the new bearings they're using. They're a little noisier but more durable and require less maintenance.

I owned both the 300MC steel and the re-issue at the same time. I sold the 300MC. I like the smaller size of the re-issue because it felt better on my wrist. The case is smaller in diameter and height, which makes it sit less proud on my wrist. I think there is room in a large collection for both, mine is not that large.

The liquidmetal ceramic bezel of the SM300MC makes me prefer it over the 1957 trilogy piece.. The way the ceramic bezel just shines and the liquidmetal numbers pop under the light is stunning and can only be appreciated in person!

How would you compare the dials of each? The 1957 re-issue appears more grey from what I’ve read.

I have a 300MC in steel and I keep it on a Nato strap for all the activities I do. If the 300MC titanium came in black, I might have considered it, but since I do not use the metal bracelet, the weight savings would not be really noticeable (Plus the Ti version is blue dial and I prefer the black dial). The steel version weighs 80g (no strap/no bracelet).

The 1957 has a bi-directional instead of a uni-directional bezel that the 300MC has if that matters to you or not.

The Omega website describes the dial of the Trilogy model as "tropical".

    I have the 57...
Actually it is very strange with the 2 watches, side-by-side (or even just looking at pics) I would for for the 300MC over the ‘57 any day (it looks just about perfect to me).

Put them on the wrist and poof, the magic of the 300MC disappears, and the ‘57 looks perfect! Weird

try them on both, you might be surprised

Actually it is slightly more brownish (hard to describe in words, it looks black but with less contrast somehow)
The lume is also more deeply colored on the ‘57 (which you may or may not like)
