Auction houses will charge anywhere from 5 to 20 percent sellers fees plus odds and ends
Make that 25-35%

Well. I did'nt really feel the urge to tell you if you're only looking for some profit. Especially if you're some shady dealer or private seller who comes here to the forum to just use the knowledge of the collective and then disappear. If you were selling the collection of your past grandmother it would be different. But you already received some great answers.

We had some real douchebags over here coming for advice...

I thought forums like this also was a place created for people who wanted to exchange advice and experiences and that is what I need in order to avoid selling my vintage watches to other douchebags who want to buy good watches for a low price. What is wrong with that?

Ok...... First: I do not see you exchange advice and experiences. You exchange nothing here. Not even, what you want to sell...... Nada. Nothing. Zilch. Nix. Nitschevo. Gar nichts. Niente.
Second: maybe it's easier for you to understand, if I post the following on an international collectors forum for vintage BMW's : " Where can I get the maximal price for my 4 Wheels? " Nothing else. ( And that is even more information than you share...... because it excludes BMW Motorcycles ....) What do you expect to happen?

If your watches are so good, then an auction (eBay/Philips/Christies/Bonhams) will be the best place to sell them.
You only need two bidders who want a particular one and that will set the realistic price.

However, to gain that best price, you also pay the penalty of sellers commission.

Such is life.

We don't actually know if your watches are as good as you say, so any chance of some pictures?

Maybe a introduction and a couple of thank you's would be appropiate. A forum is just like real life...

Er - how does wanting to buy something good for a low price make me a douchebag? That's how economics works, non?

Apparently, in OP world, the seller trying to get top price for a good or service is a paragon of virtue and cultured nobility. The buyer trying to maximize the fruits of their labor in trade for a good or service is a douchebag.

pawn shop (after factor in the time value of money due to immediate payout and no need for due diligence)
In some scenario, pawn shop giving me $ 5,000 today may be more valuable then the auction sold the same watch for $10,000 in six months.

These forums are for that. And there is nothing wrong with your question.

I think what members here are pointing out is your lack of tact and courtesy. So you can either dig your heels in and not get the answer you are hoping for, or take a more pragmatic approach. It’s really up to you.

Also, just to bring some context to you this is what we are all expecting out of an abundance of occurrences.

Parameters: to sell in the forum you need 200 posts.

solution:

- Dear collectors, buyers, sellers and possibly interested people: I need to sell a vintage Omega, what is the best place for it? Where are there any interested people? what to do? - I am only looking for information here since I can't sell here and would not dream of breaking the rules
- What are you selling? pictures?

At which point it goes to PM, watch is sold, rules are circumvented and original poster is never heard of again.

Is this you? maybe, maybe not. I am not accusing you of anything but just saying that we are all reacting to the possibility of this taking place. Maybe it's unfair to you and others but all you have to do is be aware and communicate accordingly.

We are a community. We like it like that. We are not just a resource.

Hope this helps.

Watch-up, let me see if I can help you out a bit here. Not by telling you where to get the highest price for your vintage watches, but by telling you how Omega Forums works. OF is a forum for watch enthusiasts and collectors at all levels, novice to expert, who are particularly interested in the Omega brand, but in many other brands as well. The amount of knowledge and advice available to you here is truly amazing, but it's bad form to join the group and immediately seek advice that helps YOU and contributes NOTHING to the group. We expect you to do some of your own work before you ask us for help. It would have been better if your first post had described what you had already done to answer your own question and THEN asked us for assistance. This is a common new member mistake here. I made it myself. My first post asked members to help me value a vintage Speedmaster that had been given to me by my parents. Several members reacted harshly to that post and -- appropriately -- smacked me around. A few other members, who were inclined to be a bit kinder to a new guy -- explained the expectations of the group to me as I'm explaining them to you now. Several years and many posts later, I'd like to think that I've become a valued and contributing membert of OF. I get lots of good advice here, but I also give some, as I'm doing now. Try a "do over" of your first post after you've done some of your own research, and ask a little more politely, and I think that you'll find that you receive an entirely different reception. Hope this helps.

If I ever get around to selling one I’ll let ya know where I do it. I always say, I’ll sell this one to buy that one, but somehow I never list them…
