Nice! Was this at 70m? I used to do competition archery back in college. One year on compound and one on recurve. Going from compound to recurve was.... rough
Yes, 70m. That's all they shoot now since the FITA round was pretty much eliminated from international competition. To me shooting the same distance all the time is a bit boring, and I always like the challenge of changing distances and target sizes. 90m was always a challenge in itself, but it was the distance that I enjoyed the most I think.
Certainly taking the "training wheels" off makes things more interesting, so I can understand that switching to recurve would be tough. I've shot enough with a compound to know that it's really a whole different thing to shooting a recurve. Although I only dabbled in shooting a compound for fun, I was never able to get that feel of a good shot from it the way I could with a recurve. I try to describe it to people using golf since most people have some experience with golf. Shooting a good shot with a recurve is like hitting a good drive in golf - you know as soon as the string leaves your fingers that it's going to be a 10, and just like hitting that perfectly straight drive, it's smooth and effortless when it all comes together. More than anything that is the feeling I miss now that I don't shoot anymore, although I do my best to get the sort of feeling when playing tennis now - hitting a good serve, or a good forehand/backhand can give me that same sort of feeling - you make good contact right on the sweet spot of the racket, and it's effortless.
Here's some low quality video from back when I was still shooting...I was warming up at 90m and after the first couple of ends I told my wife that it was feeling good and I thought my next arrow would be a 10. She basically called BS, so I told her to use the camera and video my next shot through the spotting scope - that is the end bit and you can hear her laugh. The rest of the video was something I put together and tacked the scope part at the end...
Of all the trophies, medals, ribbons, etc. I've won over 30 years in the sport, there's only one thing on display really...
I found the red version quite elusive, so had to settle for the blue FITA star...oh well.

Some of the best experiences of my life are archery related...
So what college did you shoot for? I know a couple in the US that have pretty good teams.
