One of the few comics that would make me laugh out loud. Bloom County and Pearls before Swines are two others. 馃憤

Those are the top 3 suspects for cutting out and clipping on my refrigerator with a magnet.

Picture taken long before I found OF of two watches on a piece of concrete stamped OMEGA at a rail crossing at the end of a train line in Alaska
I wonder if there was a matching piece of concrete stamped ALPHA at the other end of the line.

My avatar has changed since the last time we did this, so this is one of me during a training session - was a competitive recurve Olympic style archer for many years.

It is also the origin of my screen name, although many people think it's my last name. It isn't.

Cheers, Al
Nice! Was this at 70m? I used to do competition archery back in college. One year on compound and one on recurve. Going from compound to recurve was.... rough

It all started with this...

A piece of artwork from Rick Rietveld called "Futurama" Pre internet days... As a kid in SoCal surf culture was big and I was able to get a poster of this and other artwork from Maui and Sons.

When I first went online I needed a screen name pre web. I loved the retro futuristic name Futurama and did not know about the GM show car line at that time. I adopted it as my online handle.

Flash forward a few years and I was running Tech Support for Club Mac the largest Mac seller in the world at the time, and Matt Groenings production company was a client of ours. I needed to send them some files from my home computer as I had some modified system files from my contacts at Adobe that was needed to optimize and stabilize some rendering pipelines. So I sent them an email from [email protected] with the files. A few years later the TV show came out and the lead characters name was "Philip" which also happens to be my name. Coincidence or not who cares, but I did end up changing the spelling to Foo2rama to stop association with the TV show.

I concur. 馃憤 Calvin & Hobbes is by far my favorite comic strip so I always seem to end up using a C&H avatar. My first avatar was Tracer Bullet. Switched to this one last year sometime. It just cheers me up everytime I look at it!

Agreed. Calvin and Hobbes is the best. Dilbert and Far Side close behind.

My grandfather retired from NASA and Rockwell International built the Space Shuttle. That was their logo.

I used to have a Speedmaster. Then I had my lovely Seamaster 2915. Silly really cos they鈥檙e not much to grab on to and recognise.
Have now settled on my Halloween mask.
I love horror films and this mask scares my daughter every single time. He hee
Reminds me of good times.

The picture in my avatar was taken 5 years ago in Western Africa, in a little town called San Antonio de Ureca, Bioko Island.

My wife and myself went for a 5 hours hike with 2 local guides. Although it rained for the whole time we had a great time. Pretty nice please, I must say.

Two more pictures taken that very same day.

Come on.... What's cooler than a radial aircraft motor????

Nothing!

Until you have to do plug changes. Replace a broken con rod. Magneto changes, CSD changes, carby changes, de-oil bottom cylinders, do oil changes...............

And did I mention valves?

Don't get me started.

I found this flea infested kitten during my dinner break at work. Just the single kitten, 2 weeks old, abandoned & crawling on his belly. I skipped dinner to get him some formula.

I bottle fed him for 2.5 weeks, and discovered why he was abandoned - he bit the teat off 2 bottles when the milk didn't flow fast enough.
He also attacked ankles, fingers & toes with no particular preference, and when he bit, he never held back, no nipping or warning, he gave it his all. Still does...

This is him the 2nd day, biting fingers... He used to wake me at feeding time by biting wherever he found convenient, i don't miss waking up screaming with tiny vampire teeth stuck in my body.

But damn he was cute.

He loved climbing into the mini wok to sleep, still likes bowls, but his grandparents overfeed him.

He's 10 this year, still bites everyone & everything. Can't carry him cos he'll dig in with his claws, so i can't weigh him, but estimated at between 10 to 14kg.

Halle, the pit bull cat.

Yes, 70m. That's all they shoot now since the FITA round was pretty much eliminated from international competition. To me shooting the same distance all the time is a bit boring, and I always like the challenge of changing distances and target sizes. 90m was always a challenge in itself, but it was the distance that I enjoyed the most I think.

Certainly taking the "training wheels" off makes things more interesting, so I can understand that switching to recurve would be tough. I've shot enough with a compound to know that it's really a whole different thing to shooting a recurve. Although I only dabbled in shooting a compound for fun, I was never able to get that feel of a good shot from it the way I could with a recurve. I try to describe it to people using golf since most people have some experience with golf. Shooting a good shot with a recurve is like hitting a good drive in golf - you know as soon as the string leaves your fingers that it's going to be a 10, and just like hitting that perfectly straight drive, it's smooth and effortless when it all comes together. More than anything that is the feeling I miss now that I don't shoot anymore, although I do my best to get the sort of feeling when playing tennis now - hitting a good serve, or a good forehand/backhand can give me that same sort of feeling - you make good contact right on the sweet spot of the racket, and it's effortless.

Here's some low quality video from back when I was still shooting...I was warming up at 90m and after the first couple of ends I told my wife that it was feeling good and I thought my next arrow would be a 10. She basically called BS, so I told her to use the camera and video my next shot through the spotting scope - that is the end bit and you can hear her laugh. The rest of the video was something I put together and tacked the scope part at the end...

Of all the trophies, medals, ribbons, etc. I've won over 30 years in the sport, there's only one thing on display really...

I found the red version quite elusive, so had to settle for the blue FITA star...oh well. 馃榾

Some of the best experiences of my life are archery related...

So what college did you shoot for? I know a couple in the US that have pretty good teams.

X! Great video!

Haha we were a really young team. I shot for Cal State Fullerton. Sadly, I didn't go too far with archery but I did get to feel a few good shots on recurve. This was without a clicker, though. I really like the biomechanical aspect of archery. It was more about maintaining a body alignment moreso than aiming and I thought that was pretty cool. The few tournaments I did were the Tulare Indoor and a few local outdoor tournaments including one at the Chula Vista training center.
