What's the allure to having to wind a $20k watch?

I don't like quartz either. Every time you change the battery you also need to set the time...
.....and to do that you need to find the instructions, which you might not have seen since the last battery change five or eight years ago.

In that respect owners of early Omega quartz watches are lucky. Modern batteries last only about a year 馃槻

It鈥檚 been said already but if you don鈥檛 feel a connection when picking up a manual and bringing it back to life again but winding it to enjoy while it鈥檚 on your wrist then you probably need to move them on.
Let鈥檚 not discuss minute repeaters, mega money and something I just don鈥檛 get.

I like manual winding watches. I recall reading that manual wind watches need you. Well ... I need them too.

I'm the same way about the firearms collection. Yeah, while I've got semi-automatic everything bolt-action, lever-action, slide-action rifles and revolvers are satisfying to me.

Me too, JwRosenthal. Most gratifying and effective shave.

It's gotta be a book too. No Kindle need apply.
The only thing I probably take too far is OF. By the time the daily hardcopy updates make it from Australia here to the US most of the watches listed for sale are already sold 馃檨

Failing to wind a few of mine has caught me out when wearing them for 3-4 days at a time - DOH ! At least it's saved me a few bucks on watch winders 馃槈
I can relate to that. I generally wear an automatic and, as a consequence, when I wear a hand wind I sometimes forget to actually wind it 馃檨

This is an interesting question. When I first got into mechanical watches, I wanted nothing to do with manual wind. I was tired of having batteries on my quartz watches crap out on me when I was traveling. Sports watches had to have a screw down crown and a auto movement. Then I had to have a Reverso. I had a momentary feeing of disappointment when I realized they were all manual wind but I quickly got over it. Now I find that I like the certainty of knowing that the watch is powered up and the ritual of winding. It鈥檚 really no big deal to spend 30 seconds twisting a crown.

I often forget to wind my Speedy in the morning. Good thing there鈥檚 always a new daily thread to remind me!

This morning, it was this thread... apologies for delay in contributing, I was winding...

What's the allure of buying a 1 million dollar home if you have to open the doors yourself?

Yeah, a Reverso, I could get used to winding that myself! Is yours new or vintage?
